Organizational Context and Job Purpose

The Olefins & Polymers USA division of INEOS is one of the largest producers of olefins and polyolefins in North America. From its manufacturing locations at Chocolate Bayou and the Battleground Manufacturing Complex, it is a merchant marketer of butadiene, ethylene, polypropylene and high-density polyethylene with annual revenue of over $4B.

The Chocolate Bayou Site is located in Southeastern Texas about 40 miles South of Houston and consists of two Olefins units that produce approximately 4bn pounds/year of ethylene, 2 Polypropylene units that produce approximately 1B pounds/ year of polypropylene, and the Light Ends storage & transfer facilities at Stratton Ridge.

How the Role Fits In

The OT Server Engineer is responsible for the availability, reliability, and cybersecurity of servers and core infrastructure that support industrial control systems (ICS) and plant operations. This role focuses on lifecycle management of OT servers (physical and virtual), patching, backup/restore, disaster recovery, performance monitoring, and secure integration with DCS/SCADA/Historians, while adhering to industrial cybersecurity standards (e.g., ISA/IEC 62443) and plant safety protocols. This position interfaces with Operations, Maintenance Capital Projects, Process Safety, Reliability and Mechanical Integrity Groups to ensure appropriate alignment in the delivery and sustainability of PLC & OT device security at all three manufacturing sites. This position reports to the Operational Technology Team Leader, part of the Process Control and OT organization.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The position is accountable for understanding and putting into practice the INEOS 20 Principles.

Accountability: Server & Compute Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Build, configure, and maintain OT servers in segmented OT networks
  • Manage virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere/ESXi, Nutanix) and storage (SAN/NAS) supporting ICS applications.
  • Maintain domain services (AD DS/OU/GPO design for OT), DNS/DHCP, NTP, and certificate services for OT trust boundaries.
  • Health monitoring and alerting of server/computer equipment failures, alarms and warnings
  • Establish and maintain KPIs for asset health, lifecycle and performance
  • New server equipment installations and old equipment decoms
  • User management for servers/workstations and remote access
  • Implement IT and cybersecurity policies to meet Cybersecurity guidelines (IGGNs)
  • Operational Technology (OT) server/system SME for all cybersecurity projects
  • Support the site Digital System Specialists and Application Engineers in the selection, installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of their DCS servers and workstations
  • Perform audits on all assigned process control networks and apply patches / keep system to date and maintain high availability
  • Ensure initial configuration, upgrades and migrations of cybersecurity related software and hardware are working as planned (Anti-virus, Whitelisting, Backup and Restore, Monitoring Tools, Firmware and Patches, etc.)
  • Assist with the design and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans, procedures and audits
  • Support all phases of assigned capital projects including equipment selection, installation, configuration, start-up, checkout, and supervision of personnel contracted for computer/server equipment installation. Responsible for identifying reliability issues and recommending solutions for system improvements.
  • Able to support the OT Network Engineer with cisco equipment, firewalls and other network gear when needed.

Education and/or Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's degree related to Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology
  • Minimum of 5 years of operational support experience in enterprise and/or OT infrastructure supporting chemical manufacturing/plant operations
  • Working knowledge of information security standards, frameworks, risk assessment and best practices from ISA99, IEC62443, NIST882.
