Operating out of a brand new children's building, you will inherit a healthy ministry and a dedicated team of three full-time staff members. They are looking for an entrepreneurial leader who loves developing staff, building volunteer systems at scale, and partnering with parents to help kids see God and participate in His redemptive story.

About Peoples Church:

  • 3,500 average weekend attendance.
  • 550–650 kids and roughly 100 volunteers each weekend.
  • This is for a high level leader ready to oversee the staff and volunteers and is given the authority to lead.
  • Brand new children's building.
  • A "wide hallways" theological culture that unites different denominational backgrounds around the Gospel.
  • 5+ years of children's ministry experience in a large church context.
  • Experience managing direct reports and scaling large volunteer teams.
  • A self-starting, entrepreneurial mindset

About This Organization

Peoples Church is a church in Fresno, California, and has been a prominent presence in the Central Valley for over 70 years. We average around 3,500 in Sunday morning attendance across our gatherings. We are well known and respected in the community for our focus on serving the city we love, and we are traditionally known as a loving church where people feel at home when they come on campus. Guided by our vision of Helping People See God and Participate in His Redemptive Story, we come alongside our community to show them the hope found in Jesus, shaped by our values of Loving God, Loving Others, Loving Truth, Loving Culture, and Loving Sacrifice. We are a multi-generational and increasingly diverse congregation, and we actively extend a hand into the community through events that meet people where they are. We are a big church that works hard to feel like a small one, where it is easy to get connected and where people are welcomed in and treated like family.

Location

Fresno is a respite from the large cities that typify ideas about California, such as San Francisco and Los Angeles. Fresno County produces agriculture that feeds the world and is home to a tight-knit, diverse community with a rich history and a small-town feel. Sitting in the heart of the Central Valley, Fresno offers an enviable location with easy access to both the mountains and the coast, with Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon National Parks practically in the backyard, and both Los Angeles and the Bay Area within easy reach for a weekend trip. It is a place where a pastor and family can put down roots, raise children, and build a life alongside their ministry for the long haul.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall pastoral and strategic leadership for our Children’s Ministry, serving the children, families, and volunteers who make up one of our most active ministries.
  • Lead and develop our team of three full-time staff, including a full-time admin and two full-time coordinators across preschool, elementary, and pre-team environments.
  • Recruit, train, and retain a strong volunteer team of more than 100 leaders who serve our children each weekend.
  • Lead our weekend gatherings for children, ensuring they are environments where kids see God and take real steps in their faith.
  • Lead the volunteers who lead the children while staying personally engaged and present with kids and families.
  • Build and steward relationships with parents, navigating family conversations and concerns with pastoral care and clear communication.
  • Maintain and strengthen safety, background check, and operational systems that protect children and build trust with families.
  • Promote the Children’s Ministry across our congregation, helping our church family stay connected to what God is doing through this ministry.
  • Steward the Children’s Ministry’s staff, volunteer base, new building, and ministry budget with care and intentionality.

Key Qualifications

  • Three to five years of experience leading children’s ministry
  • Experience in a large church environment preferred, but demonstrated experience and ministry trajectory will be taken into consideration
  • Demonstrated experience managing direct reports and developing staff and volunteer teams.
  • A self-starter who sets their own goals and a team player willing to work within the wide hallways of our leadership culture.
  • An excellent communicator, both in person and electronically.
  • Comfortable navigating parent relationships, safety and background check processes, and the operational complexity that comes with leading a children’s ministry at scale.

Key Distinctives

A loving church where people feel at home: This is what we are known for in our community, and it shapes everything we do.

Over 70 years in the Central Valley: A prominent, respected church with deep roots and a long legacy of serving our city.

A big church that feels like a small one: You can be as connected as you want to be, and we have built a lot of front doors to make that easy.

Wide theological hallways: Gospel-centered, generous on the secondary issues, and home to people from many backgrounds.

Outward-facing and missions-minded. We actively extend a hand into our community and pour into both our city and the world.

A 40-acre campus with real resources: Including an on-campus K–12 school with a generous tuition discount for staff.

Diverse and multi-generational: Our congregation increasingly reflects the makeup of our region, and we value both the legacy of older generations and the energy of younger ones.
