Hospital Medicine

The Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine is recruiting full-time, experienced pediatric advanced practice providers with strong clinical skills, and an interest in academic medicine. The candidate will participate in clinical, educational, and quality improvement initiatives within the Division. Mastery of skills such as professionalism, team-based care, care of children with medical complexity, and effective communication are mandatory.

The Division is currently made up of more than 40 physicians and 6 hospital medicine fellows, and 3 APRNs. 

The clinical practice occurs within our tertiary care facility described and within our CMH community site, which is also included below.

Children's Mercy Hospital (Adele Hall Campus) is an urban, tertiary care/academic children's hospital with full pediatric medical/surgical support. This role would include direct care on a hospitalist-only team comprised of medically complex and diverse general pediatric patients.  Fellows, medical students, and residents on elective may be part of the team.

Children's Mercy Kansas is a unique, free-standing community children's hospital located 12 miles southwest of Children's Mercy Hospital. The hospital serves a breadth of pediatric diagnoses with lower acuity than our main campus. Clinical service on this campus offers a complementary clinical experience, featuring a professionally stimulating, direct interaction with pediatric professionals in our busy on-site pediatric emergency department, as well as in our community referral area.

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse I (APRN-I) provides comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing to address the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement. The APRN-I participates in beginning leadership, evidenced-based practice/ research, and organizational development activities with the support and direction of an experienced APRN mentor.

If you are selected for this position, you will be asked to supply your immunization records as proof of vaccination. If you and have any concerns about receiving these vaccines, medical and/or religious exemptions can be further discussed with Human Resources.

  • Master's Degree Required and 1-2 years experience Pediatric RN experience. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty.
  • DNP preferred and 1-2 years experience Pediatric RN experience. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty.
  • Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
  • Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
  • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
  • APRN KS Advanced Practice Registered Nurse KS APRN license in Kansas Required Upon Hire
  • APRN MO Advanced Practice Registered Nurse MO APRN documentation of Recognition in Missouri Required Upon Hire
  • APRN board certification congruent with population and practice setting (see policy statement: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Roles and Practice Setting) Required Upon Hire
  • PNP-Acute Care will be required
    • candidate will have two years to enroll/be accepted in a program and five years to complete the program
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
  • Specialty Certification relevant to unit's patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred
