Job Description
Lurie Children's Hospital Spiritual Care Department is committed to providing exceptional spiritual care for people of all spiritual and religious traditions. To enhance our ability to provide personalized care, we value having Spiritual Care associates from diverse spiritual and religious traditions to support our patients, their loved ones and our staff and to advise regarding workplace accommodations for employees from their tradition.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Advise and educate Spiritual Care on best practices to support our patients, families and staff from their tradition. Provides recommendations aligned with their tradition regarding days of special significance, dietary practices, and resource/facilities/infrastructure needs.
  • Leads services, participates in panel discussions, and provides education as requested about their tradition.
  • Follows up in a timely fashion on referrals from chaplains with visits for patients, loved ones and staff who affiliate with their tradition.
  • Provides appropriate resources, rituals requested by patient, loved ones or staff.
  • Communicates with on-call chaplain before and after each visit.
  • Participates in spiritual care departmental meetings at least twice a year.
  • Models the values of our hospital in all interactions with patients, loved ones, colleagues, and staff and performs job functions with focus on excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service.
  • Shows respect for all spiritual and religious traditions, even those outside of their own specific tradition.
  • Works as an employee at the hospital only at the request of chaplains and visits only requested patients in their workplace capacity.
  • Other job functions as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Education: Master's degree or higher in field related to their spiritual or religious tradition
  • Certification: one unit of CPE preferred, not required
  • Job Related Experience: Spiritual Care experience in local community, hospital, prison, or other setting
  • Skills/Knowledge: Excellent communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work as a part of multiple teams. Ability to speak a language(s) in addition to English strongly preferred.

Pay Range
$24.00-$39.24 Hourly
