About This Role

Our Center Director leads the daily operations of a childcare facility, ensuring high-quality education, staff supervision, family engagement, and full compliance with licensing and safety regulations.


What You'll Do
Center Director Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the overall daily operations of the center in alignment with the vision and standards set by the Owner and leadership team.
  • Ensure a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for all children, maintaining strict adherence to licensing, health, and safety regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and uphold center policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Oversee financial operations, including budgeting for staffing, supplies, equipment, and professional development, while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
  • Ensure the consistent implementation of curriculum and daily classroom structure, supporting children’s academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and retain qualified staff; ensure proper classroom coverage and compliance with ratio requirements at all times.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, supervision, and leadership to staff, including regular classroom observations, feedback, and monthly check-ins.
  • Conduct formal staff evaluations annually and implement performance improvement plans when necessary.
  • Plan and coordinate ongoing professional development and in-service training to maintain high-quality teaching practices.
  • Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with families through open communication, conferences, and engagement opportunities.
  • Oversee enrollment processes, including touring, interviewing prospective families, and supporting retention efforts.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant recordkeeping in accordance with the Department of Education and center policies, including child files, staff records, and attendance systems.
  • Maintain current certification in CPR and First Aid and ensure staff compliance with all required trainings.
  • Oversee the cleanliness, organization, and maintenance of the facility, ensuring the building and grounds are consistently well-kept and operational.
  • Collaborate with dietary staff to ensure meals meet all health department standards and Child and Adult Care Food Program requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the center and the community, building partnerships that support the center’s growth and reputation.
  • Plan and support parent engagement initiatives, including conferences, meetings, and quarterly progress reports for each child.
  • Oversee communication to families, including newsletters, updates, and center-wide announcements.
  • Attend trainings, seminars, and professional development opportunities to stay current in early childhood education best practices.
  • Model professionalism at all times, including maintaining confidentiality, demonstrating strong leadership, and upholding the center’s commitment to quality care and service.

Requirements

Center Director – Job Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively lead staff, engage families, and resolve conflicts professionally
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience as permitted by state licensing)
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated experience in early childhood education, including curriculum implementation and classroom management
  • Knowledge of state licensing regulations, health and safety standards, and best practices in early childhood education
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
  • Ability to recruit, train, coach, and evaluate staff while maintaining a positive and accountable team culture
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality
  • Energetic, hands-on leadership style with a genuine passion for working with children and supporting their development
  • Physically able to lift, bend, sit, stand, and actively engage with children throughout the day
  • Flexible and reliable with the ability to work varied schedules, including extended hours when needed
  • Growth-minded, coachable, and committed to ongoing professional development
