Reports to: Head Start Lead Teacher / Head Start Director
Location: Southern Avenue Charter Elementary School, Memphis, TN
Salary Range: $13.00 – $16.00 per hour
Employment Type: Full-Time, 10-month

Position Summary:

Southern Avenue Charter Elementary School is hiring a caring and dependable Head Start Teacher Assistant to support our Lead Teachers in the implementation of a high-quality early learning experience. The Teacher Assistant will play a vital role in promoting the development and well-being of our youngest scholars by helping create a safe, clean, and engaging classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing daily activities that promote child development.

  • Assist in managing classroom routines, transitions, and behavior expectations.

  • Foster positive interactions with children to support social-emotional learning.

  • Help supervise indoor and outdoor play, ensuring children's safety at all times.

  • Assist with setting up learning materials and maintaining an orderly classroom.

  • Attend team meetings and participate in required training and professional development.

  • Maintain confidentiality and follow all Head Start and school policies.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; CDA (Child Development Associate) credential or willingness to obtain is strongly preferred.

  • Previous experience working with preschool-aged children is highly desirable.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to take direction and work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
