Job description


JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT CHILDCARE TEACHER

DEPARTMENT: YOUTH SERVICES

FLSA: NON-EXEMPT


SUMMARY: The Assistant Teacher provides supervision to children ages 2 months - 5 years. This position is responsible for providing appropriate learning and recreational activities for children in that age range. The Assistant Teacher is expected to support the teacher in providing a safe, secure and nurturing environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares and organizes age appropriate learning and recreational activities.
  • Collaborates with caseworkers and other staff to address childcare and other related issues.
  • Tracks daily sign-in sheets and maintains all other pertinent forms as required.
  • Maintains safety standards for childcare areas.
  • Ensures safe, hygienic, well-organized environment at all times.
  • Promptly reports possible child abuse or neglect to supervisor.
  • Supervises and interacts with children during recreational/learning activities.
  • Observes behavior of children. Identifies and reports concerns to supervisor.
  • Performs all other related duties as required.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will have experience with training and/or classes in early childhood education or CDA (child development program credential). Relevant Bachelor’s degree preferred. Previous experience with young children is required. Must be available to work weekends. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must. Valid driver’s license required for at least 2 years, vehicle a plus.
