United WE is seeking a dynamic marketing and communications professional as its Marketing & Communications Director. This is a pivotal opportunity to join a national nonprofit that has spent more than three decades championing women's economic mobility and civic influence. The Marketing & Communications Director reports to the Chief Operations Officer and plays a critical role in advancing the nonpartisan organization's mission to advance women's economic growth and leadership. Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, this role translates complex, data-driven research into compelling narratives that inspire policy change, donor investment, and community engagement, leveraging audience insights and performance metrics to optimize content and campaign performance.

Responsibilities

Content Development & Storytelling

  • Design actionable content: Turn comprehensive data on women's economic status and civic leadership into elevated, yet accessible, actionable design.
  • Write across channels: Develop and support persuasive copy for email campaigns, The Magazine, annual impact reports, website copy, and related communications materials.
  • Manage Campaigns: Help develop and support press campaigns with media kits and brand materials to carry the United WE message across regional and national audiences.

Digital Strategy & Brand Management

  • Maintain brand integrity: Act as a brand ambassador, ensuring all public-facing materials strictly adhere to organizational tone, nonpartisan guidelines, and visual standards across platforms and initiatives.
  • Support owned social media: Support day-to-day engagement and content scheduling across LinkedIn, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter).
  • Update digital touchpoints: Manage website text and media content updates using content management systems.
  • Monitor audience engagement: Review content and campaign performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve audience engagement and reach.

Development & Campaign Support

  • Drive donor outreach: Partner with the Chief Development Officer to construct fundraising assets, direct mail, and digital donor nurture sequences.
  • Promote core initiatives: Build awareness campaigns for signature programs and events.
  • Optimize operations: Coordinate communications timelines across the organization and visual asset deployment, maintain marketing calendars, and run performance analytics reports to gauge audience growth.

Project & Partner Coordination

  • Manage communications projects, timelines, and deliverables across internal teams and external partners.
  • Manages relationships with communications vendors and contractors including supporting alignment, quality control, and timely execution.
  • Ensure communications priorities move efficiently from planning through execution across organizational initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field.
  • Minimum 6+ years of progressive marketing experience. Must have 2+ years in a leadership role.
  • Mastery of digital publishing tools (e.g., Squarespace, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, HubSpot, Mailchimp, and Google Analytics).
  • Strong copywriting skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Clear, professional communication and writing skills.
  • Experience in nonprofit, civic or philanthropic organizations preferred.
  • A deep appreciation for nonpartisan community building

This position is based in Kansas City with the flexibility to work in the office or remotely.  The anticipated hiring salary range for this exempt position is $80,000 - $105,000. The package will be determined by the experience level, credentials and personal characteristics of the candidate offered.
