Chief Operating Officer (COO) – Construction Operations

Location: Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas | Executive Leadership Role

Compensation: Highly Competitive Executive Package – DOE

About the Opportunity

Elite Executive Solutions is conducting a confidential executive search for an accomplished Chief Operating Officer (COO) to provide strategic and operational leadership for a growing construction organization in the Dallas–Fort Worth market.

This opportunity is designed for a proven construction executive who has successfully led large teams, complex project portfolios, organizational growth, and operational transformation.

Working closely with executive leadership, the COO will be responsible for translating company strategy into operational execution while strengthening the people, processes, systems, and accountability necessary to support continued growth.

This individual will have significant influence over the organization's operational direction and will play an important role in developing the next generation of leadership across the business.

Why This Opportunity?

The successful executive will have the opportunity to help build and scale an organization during an important period of growth.

This position offers the ability to:

  • Partner directly with executive leadership on organizational strategy.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing construction operations organization.
  • Strengthen operational consistency, accountability, and project execution.
  • Build scalable processes and leadership infrastructure.
  • Improve project performance, forecasting, productivity, and profitability.
  • Develop future operational leaders.
  • Influence expansion into new markets and project opportunities.
  • Help establish the operating model necessary to support long-term growth.

This is an opportunity for a leader who wants to build something meaningful, not simply oversee an existing operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership and strategic direction across construction operations.
  • Translate company objectives into measurable operational plans and results.
  • Lead senior operational personnel and establish clear expectations and accountability.
  • Oversee performance across multiple projects, teams, and operating functions.
  • Drive excellence in safety, quality, schedule, productivity, profitability, and client satisfaction.
  • Monitor project financial performance, forecasting, margins, labor productivity, schedules, and operational risk.
  • Develop and mentor Project Executives, operational leaders, Project Managers, Superintendents, and other key personnel.
  • Establish operational KPIs and reporting that provide executive leadership with clear visibility into performance.
  • Partner with preconstruction and estimating teams on project selection, planning, staffing, and risk assessment.
  • Strengthen collaboration between operations, field leadership, finance, preconstruction, business development, and executive leadership.
  • Develop scalable processes and systems capable of supporting continued organizational growth.
  • Evaluate organizational structure, staffing requirements, technology, and resources.
  • Improve manpower planning, resource allocation, forecasting, and project controls.
  • Identify operational risks and implement proactive mitigation strategies.
  • Support strategic expansion into new markets, geographies, and project types.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and key industry partners.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, leadership development, safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Significant progressive leadership experience within the construction industry.
  • Experience operating at the COO, President, EVP/SVP Operations, VP Operations, Regional President, or comparable senior leadership level strongly preferred.
  • Background within general contracting, electrical construction, MEP, mission-critical/data center construction, specialty contracting, or another complex construction environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading substantial construction operations and project portfolios.
  • Proven experience scaling teams, processes, and operating infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of project financial performance, forecasting, margins, labor productivity, scheduling, procurement, and risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and develop senior operational leaders.
  • Strong understanding of both field execution and project management.
  • Experience implementing KPIs, operating processes, and accountability systems.
  • Proven ability to partner effectively across finance, estimating, preconstruction, business development, and executive leadership.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, project risk, and commercial decision-making.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, business judgment, and executive presence.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and growth-oriented environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.

The Ideal Executive

The ideal candidate is an operator, strategist, and people leader.

This individual understands that successful construction operations are built through disciplined execution, strong financial performance, exceptional field leadership, and talented teams.

They will know when to introduce structure and process without creating unnecessary bureaucracy and will be comfortable operating in an environment where growth requires leaders to remain adaptable, decisive, and close to the business.

The successful COO will bring the ability to scale an organization while protecting the culture, execution standards, client relationships, and entrepreneurial mindset that created its success.

Compensation & Executive Package

The organization is prepared to offer a highly competitive executive compensation package based on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.

The overall package may include:

  • Highly competitive executive base compensation
  • Executive performance incentive
  • Comprehensive benefits
  • Relocation assistance for qualified candidates
  • Significant opportunity to influence organizational strategy and long-term growth

Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, leadership background, and overall alignment with the position.
