Job description

The Opportunity:
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at USF Health's Morsani College of Medicine is seeking a Chief of Obstetrics to provide strategic, clinical, and administrative leadership for its Labor & Delivery services within a nationally recognized academic medical center. This inaugural leadership role offers the opportunity to shape the future of obstetric care with a focus on patient safety, clinical excellence, innovation, and academic advancement across both high-risk and low-risk populations.
Reporting to the Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Chief of Obstetrics will serve as the clinical and operational leader for Labor & Delivery, partnering closely with departmental leadership, hospital administration, and nursing leaders to advance outcomes, quality, and patient experience. The role balances hands-on clinical engagement with strategic oversight and is complemented by opportunities in medical education, quality and safety initiatives, and scholarly activity.
USF Health supports a robust OB/GYN residency program with 24 residents and ACGME-accredited fellowships in:
Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Gynecologic Oncology
Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility
Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery
The Role:
The Chief of Obstetrics will lead a high-acuity Labor & Delivery service within a comprehensive academic health system and will be responsible for setting the vision and operational framework for obstetric care. This leader will ensure the delivery of safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care while supporting the department's academic mission.
Key areas of responsibility include:
Strategic and operational leadership of Labor & Delivery services
Oversight of clinical quality, safety initiatives, and performance metrics
Collaboration with nursing, anesthesia, neonatology, and hospital leadership
Mentorship and education of residents, fellows, medical students, and advanced practice providers
Participation in departmental leadership, faculty development, and academic governance
Engagement in quality improvement, research, or educational scholarship aligned with academic rank
Clinical, Educational & Academic Environment:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is nationally recognized for its commitment to education, innovation, and multidisciplinary collaboration, with trainees rotating across a diverse range of clinical settings including tertiary care, cancer care, and community-based women's health services.
Candidate Qualifications:
MD or equivalent degree from an accredited institution
Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology
Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Florida
Record of academic achievement appropriate for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level (exceptional Assistant Professor candidates will be considered)
Demonstrated leadership experience in a high-volume obstetric setting, preferably within an academic medical center
Strong commitment to resident and fellow education, faculty mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration
