What this job involves

As an Assistant Chief Engineer for Data Center Facilities at JLL, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of mission-critical data center environments. You will work closely with the leadership to oversee facility operations, manage technical teams, and implement strategies to optimize performance, reliability, and efficiency of data center infrastructure.

Your day-to-day tasks will include

  • Assisting in the management and coordination of data center facility operations and maintenance activities
  • Supervising and mentoring technical staff, including engineers, technicians, and contractors
  • Monitoring and analyzing critical systems performance, including power, cooling, and network infrastructure
  • Developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules and procedures
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with safety, security, and regulatory requirements
  • Participating in capacity planning and infrastructure upgrade projects
  • Responding to and managing critical incidents and emergency situations
  • Preparing technical reports, documentation, and presentations for management and clients

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center operations and management
  • Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure, including power distribution, cooling systems, and network architecture
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices (e.g., ASHRAE, TIA, Uptime Institute)
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Proficiency in using facility management software and building automation systems
  • Valid certification in at least one relevant area (e.g., CDCP, DCPRO, or equivalent)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, and working/extending overhead
  • Lifting a minimum of 50 lbs regularly
  • Climbing stairs and navigating rooftops to access equipment
  • Using ladders up to 30 ft and working from heights
  • Ability to climb a ladder with a 300-lb weight limit
  • Must be able to work different schedules
  • Must be able to work holidays
  • Must be able to respond to site emergencies
  • Must be able to be on the on-call rotation

Preferred:

  • Previous military experience including Army Prime Power, Navy ET/Nuke, or Air Force HVAC/Power Pro Electrician
  • Corrigo experience for work order and maintenance management
  • ServiceNow experience for ticketing and workflow management
  • Moderate knowledge of manual trades such as carpentry and electromechanical repair
  • Working knowledge or capability to develop proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and other recommended software packages
  • Multi-site data center management experience
