Technology Designer | Chicago, IL - Naperville Office

IMEG is hiring a Technology Project Designer in Chicago, IL- Naperville Office, to support the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of low-voltage technology systems for Mission Critical & Healthcare. This role leads design efforts on low to moderate complexity projects and collaborates with senior staff on larger and higher complexity work.

You'll work within project budgets, support project planning and delivery, train and mentor less experienced staff, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. The team supports work across education, institutional, and MEP markets, with added strength in security and technology risk systems for healthcare, federal, corrections, and mission critical settings.

What You'll Do

  • Lead design efforts for the analysis of IT structured cabling, audio/video, security, and other low-voltage building systems.

  • Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.

  • Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information effectively, and build and maintain client relationships through professional communication.

  • Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects.

  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives, and document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress as related to percent complete and fee expended.

  • Analyze engineering problems, propose innovative solutions, and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.

  • Provide in-process design reviews of IT structured cabling, audio/video, security, and other low-voltage building systems design, calculations, and specifications, and implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements.

  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in low-voltage technology (ICT) engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.

  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with low-voltage technology ICT systems.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.

  • Work within the project's monetary budget, train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations, identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager, and oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase.

Education and Experience

Qualifications (one of the following):

Option A:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer or related Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, related STEM field, or equivalent required

  • 3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry

Option B:

  • Associates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred

  • 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications

  • Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles relating to electrical voltage and current, digital and analog signals, basic IT networking topologies and protocols, as it relates to electrical low-voltage systems design for buildings

  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff

  • Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges

  • Proficiency in the use of BIM software

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

  • Must have the ability to travel up to 50%, including local, domestic, and international travel as needed for business purposes, which may include overnight stays and/or air travel

Salary Ranges (by jurisdiction, in compliance with local laws):

State of Illinois Salary Range: $86,000-$120,000 per year

State of Ohio Salary Range:$86,000-$120,000 per year

The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location.

Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate's experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
