The Role We Want You For

LJC is seeking an experienced Interior Project Architect to join our growing Interiors practice in Chicago. This role will be responsible for leading design and technical development of interior architecture and design projects across the firm.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled technical professional with a passion for mentoring teams, improving project delivery standards, and ensuring design excellence. This individual will work closely with project teams, consultants, and clients while collaborating across LJC disciplines and Clayco’s integrated design-build platform to support successful project outcomes.

The Specifics of the Role

  • Direct and coordinate technical execution of interior architecture and design projects from concept through construction administration.
  • Coordinate with quality control team to ensure quality assurance standards across project documentation and deliverables.
  • Direct, coordinate, and participate in the production of Review project drawings, specifications, and technical documents to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Work closely with project consultants for seamless project integration.
  • Direct, coordinate, and participate in construction administration activities such as submittal reviews, RFI responses, change order reviews, and on-site visits and meetings to ensure alignment with design intent and project documentation.
  • Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert for project teams, providing guidance on detailing, documentation, and project delivery best practices.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field.
  • 8+years of experience in interior architecture, interior design, or architectural project delivery, including leadership responsibilities on complex projects.
  • Registered Architect (RA) or Registered Interior Designer required.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating technical project delivery and construction documentation efforts.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, construction methodologies, materials, detailing, and interior architecture best practices.
  • Thorough understanding of building codes, accessibility requirements, life safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams and consultant coordination.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience developing and maintaining BIM standards and project documentation workflows preferred.
  • LEED Accredited Professional, WELL Accredited Professional, or similar sustainability credential preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction administration processes, including RFIs, submittals, punch lists, and field observations.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Proven ability to mentor, coach, and develop design professionals.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to design excellence, technical rigor, and continuous improvement.

Compensation

  • The salary range for this position considers a wide range of factors in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: Education, qualifications, skills, training, experience, certifications, internal equity, and location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The Clayco Nationwide salary range for this position is approximately $90,000 - $100,000 annually (not adjusted for location).
