Duties and Responsibilities
The Marketing Cloud Administrator manages web administration and digital marketing efforts for the University's Advancement division. This role oversees CMS and various digital platforms (Salesforce, Marketing Cloud, T4, Kindsight connect, CVENT), ensuring alignment with institutional priorities while managing online event registrations, donation pages, microsites, surveys, and email invitations. They develop user-friendly web templates, optimize online content, and lead web analytics using Google Analytics and SiteImprove. In Marketing Cloud, they build dynamic email campaigns using HTML, AMPscript, data extensions, journeys, and SQL, oversee data segmentation and automation, and ensure compliance with email best practices. With expertise in web development, digital marketing, and data-driven strategy, this position enhances the University's online engagement and communications.
Web Administration & Management
  • Oversee the utilization of CMS and various digital platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Marketing Cloud, T4, Kindsight connect, CVENT) by the University. Coordinate with Advancement, University Marketing and Communications, and ITS to ensure environments are meeting priorities.
  • Ensure the correct flow of data in the Salesforce ecosystem between Salesforce, Marketing Cloud, and Cvent.
  • Manage the design and creation of online event registrations, online donation pages, websites, microsites, survey forms, and email invitations for the Advancement division.
  • Edit and optimize images and content for use online.
  • Manage the development of web templates that can be easily used and modified by non-technical staff.
  • Act as the lead for web analytics, utilizing Google Analytics and SiteImprove to monitor site performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and collaborate with stakeholders to optimize digital strategies.
  • Ensure content follows guidelines for best practices (meta tags, alt text, internal linking).
  • Oversee content lifecycle management (publishing, updating, and archiving) to maintain brand consistency and optimize user experience.

Marketing Cloud
  • Develops and maintains a thorough understanding of the technical workings of HTML email, including coding techniques and best practices to ensure consistent display of content in a wide range of email clients.
  • Understands and utilizes all features/capabilities of the Salesforce Marketing Cloud platform, including:
    • Develops personalized/dynamic email messages, landing pages, and automated campaigns, with proficiency in HTML for customization and optimization.
    • Segments and pulls dynamic subscribers/contacts for campaigns.
    • Queries data with SQL, sets up content blocks and personalization within emails using AMPscript.
    • Builds data extensions and journeys for use in email delivery.
  • Leads the collection of email analytics and reports on email performance to colleagues and partners.
  • Understands industry best practices, email regulations, and compliance measures related to email development (such as CAN-SPAM and other relevant data/privacy regulations).

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in related field supplemented with 2-3 years work experience in related field.
Qualifications
Minimum Education & Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in digital marketing, including web content development, HTML email, and experience working in Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • HTML and CSS experience; proficiency with HTML editing applications; proficiency with Photoshop or equivalent image editing applications; experience developing and distributing bulk email campaigns; proficiency coding AMPscript for email marketing in Marketing Cloud; SQL.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of donor and fundraising databases, preferably Kindsight ascend.
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms and best practices, preferably Terminal4 (T4) and Salesforce Experience Cloud.

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses
Obtain Salesforce Marketing Cloud Associate certification within six months of starting the role.
Computer Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of donor and fundraising databases, preferably Kindsight's ascend.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, SQL, and integrating them into a CMS.
