Job description

Overview
Epstein is seeking a Bridge Project Engineer with bridge experience to join our Civil engineering team. The Engineer performs a variety of engineering tasks and works with others on the design team (often a multi-disciplined team) to design innovative and technically sound solutions in accordance with project requirements and applicable codes. The ideal candidate will have work experience in the Civil Engineering field related to transportation structures. Project types may include new structures as well as inspection, evaluation and rehabilitation of existing structures. The projects will involve a wide variety of structure types, foundations and materials, preferably on IDOT and/or ISTHA projects.
General Responsibilities:
  • Design of transportation structures including highway bridges, retaining walls, and box culverts
  • Preparing structural analysis and design calculations according to the applicable design codes; using computer programs as appropriate
  • Preparing technical reports, contract plans, and specifications, construction cost estimates and performance of on-site structural inspections, analysis and condition assessment of existing structures.
  • Assisting with project construction administration including reviews of shop drawings and requests for information (RFI's)
  • Mentoring junior engineering staff in technical and project development

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structural Engineering. Master's in Structural Engineering - preferred
  • Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) preferred, or actively pursuing licensure with anticipated completion within 2 years
  • 5+ years of successful project experience within a consulting engineering firm
  • Expertise in bridge design principles and bridge inspection experience
  • Strong technical leader with financial project management experience including scheduling, contract control, budget and cost control
  • Experience with Microstation and structural analysis design and finite element software
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Considerable experience in dealing with clients, contractors and vendors
  • Successful experience supporting multiple projects
  • Knowledge of Illinois Department of Transportation design standards, procedures and specifications is preferred

Individual compensation is determined by several factors, including relevant education, experience and training, qualifications, skill sets, licensure/certifications and location.
