Parsons is now hiring an experienced Principal Chemical Process Engineer for our expanding portfolio of federal projects. Parsons extensive experience in this field, combined with your engineering knowledge, will propel your career forward with opportunity for advancement with top performance. This role is primarily to support the design functions on refurbishment and renovation of small to large complex facility, infrastructure, equipment, and systems. You will work with BIM specialists/designers to review drawings and provide technical input on drawings and specifications suitable for procurement and system installation.

This role will be in Parsons' new design center office located in beautiful Kingsport, Tennessee but may require some occasional on-site construction support work at other locations across the US.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Contribute to the design of wet chemistry processes including but not limited to acid deficient urinal nitrate, gelation, solvent recovery, liquid chemical processing, liquid chemical transportation, evaporation, filtration, storage, mixing, etc.
  • Develop specifications for process equipment and work with equipment suppliers to ensure critical design characteristics are met for equipment delivery.
  • Work with subcontractors and suppliers to design, construct, deliver, and install process equipment.
  • Conduct research to develop new and improved processes for manufacturing. Evaluate and implement new equipment and technologies to improve process efficiency and product quality.
  • Develop methods and procedures to process and handle chemicals and materials that are solid, liquid, and gaseous in safe and efficient manner.
  • Work with regulatory team to establish safety procedures for individuals working with dangerous chemicals, processes, or equipment.
  • Work with regulatory team to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Provide support for waste permitting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex process-related design issues.
  • Mentor and train junior process engineers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, material science, material science engineering, mechanical engineering, or another related field and at least 10+ years of related work experience with industrial and chemical process plants
  • Professional Engineer Registration in State of Tennessee or ability to obtain one
  • Chemical process system analysis experience of at least six months
  • Willingness to travel or relocate to supplier, client, or construction site locations
