The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Gannon University is committed to excellence in student-centered learning, with an emphasis on student learning outcomes. Graduate Assistants play an important role in achieving these outcomes by working collaboratively with program faculty and fellow Graduate Assistants to support program operations, facilitate open laboratory experiences, provide academic support as requested by faculty, and assist with clinical practice opportunities.
While each Graduate Assistant has primary responsibilities, all GAs are expected to work collaboratively, support one another, and contribute to program needs as they arise. As leaders and representatives of the DPT Program, Graduate Assistants are expected to demonstrate professionalism, initiative, flexibility, maintain student confidentiality, and conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the standards and values of the program. This position is for students beginning the second year of the DPT program.

Responsibilities in the fall semester:
1. Ensure that all students follow laboratory safety guidelines, wear appropriate attire, including long pants, closed-toed shoes, and eye protection, and maintain professional conduct during scheduled laboratory times.
2. Complete cadaver dissections according to provided instructions. The second-year anatomy Graduate Assistant is expected to mentor the first-year Graduate Assistant in completing dissections.
3. Assist with open laboratory sessions for first-year anatomy students and ensure adherence to laboratory safety expectations.
4. Assist with maintaining an inventory of essential laboratory materials, including nitrile gloves and dissection kits.
5. Ensure that all laboratory surfaces and tools are properly cleaned and disinfected following dissections and open laboratory sessions.
6. Assist faculty with administrative tasks, grading, and other responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities in the spring Semester
1. Assist with maintaining physical therapy laboratory environments, including organization, laboratory set-up and clean-up, inventory, and laundry.
2. Provide academic support to first-year students as requested by faculty.

Required Qualifications
  • Enrollment as a second-year student in the Gannon University Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.
  • Successful completion of cadaver-based anatomy course
  • Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of the Graduate Assistant team and contribute to shared program responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
No instances of academic or professional behavior probation.
Physical Demands
Fall Semester: Work is performed primarily in the human gross anatomy laboratory. Responsibilities require standing for extended periods, performing fine motor tasks associated with cadaver dissection, and adhering to laboratory safety protocols, including the use of required personal protective equipment. Graduate Assistants must be comfortable working in a cadaver laboratory and around chemical preservatives.
Spring Semester: Work is performed primarily in physical therapy teaching laboratories, classrooms, and office settings. Responsibilities require standing for extended periods, assisting with routine laboratory set-up and organization, and using standard instructional and office equipment.
