The Chemical Engineer for Voyager Technologies is responsible for supporting the establishment of a new chemical manufacturing facility by specifying, procuring, designing, building, testing, and commissioning chemical process equipment.
The position reports to the Chief Engineer and is part of the Chemicals and Explosives Team. This is an on-site role based in Penrose, CO, with a shift to Pueblo, CO, expected within the next year.
In this role, the essential functions are:
  1. Translating lab data into process requirements and equipment specifications
  2. Procuring existing industrial equipment where it meets cost, schedule, and performance requirements
  3. Developing and building first-principles solutions alongside the technician team, where existing equipment does not meet the above requirements
  4. Testing, refining, and commissioning equipment to bring systems into operation
  5. Contributing to the safe development and operation of equipment
  6. Identifying, communicating, and tracking engineering risks and mitigations

Basic Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related discipline OR 4+ years of experience in chemical engineering in lieu of a degree
  2. Experience taking a process through design, testing, iteration, and scale-up
  3. Experience executing a project on schedule, within budget, and to required quality standards
  4. Working knowledge of mass and energy balances, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics
  5. Working knowledge of common unit operations employed in chemical manufacturing
  6. Ability to communicate effectively through written, verbal, and presentation channels while explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. 2 years of chemical engineering experience (with a bachelor's degree in engineering) or 6 years of chemical engineering experience (in lieu of a degree)
  2. Experience with one or more of the following unit operation types: electrochemistry, evaporation, crystallization, dewatering, drying, and powder packaging

Travel, Physical, and/or Government Mandated Requirements:
  • Travel up to 15%, including the possibility of overnights, particularly to Minden, Louisiana area
  • Ability to lift, move, or carry items or equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Exposure to heat, cold, and unconditioned manufacturing spaces
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain State and Federal explosives licenses, including
    • Be 21 years of age or older
    • Pass the pre-employment drug test and health screening
    • Pass State and Federal background checks

The good-faith base salary range for this role is $75,000-$105,000 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus. This range may be adjusted in the future. The position may be eligible for a lump-sum bonus upon hire.
