Job Summary

The Chemical Engineer is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations within a copper sulfate manufacturing facility, including production, quality, staffing, logistics, safety, and cost control. This role provides hands-on technical and operational leadership to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing while meeting production and customer requirements. The Chemical Engineer analyzes plant performance, develops and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs), leads continuous improvement initiatives, and identifies opportunities to improve process reliability, capacity, quality, and profitability. The position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, independent decision-making, and the ability to balance immediate operational priorities with long-term performance improvements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee copper sulfate manufacturing operations to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient production.

  • Manage production schedules, resource allocation, and process flow to meet production requirements and delivery commitments.

  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate shipping and receiving activities to support timely delivery of finished goods.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor KPIs related to operational efficiency, product quality, safety, and employee performance.

  • Analyze operational and production data to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, quality concerns, and improvement opportunities.

  • Lead corrective and preventive actions to improve plant performance, product quality, and process reliability.

  • Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to improve manufacturing capacity, productivity, and process performance.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable quality standards, product specifications, and regulatory requirements.

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop plant personnel while promoting accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels and support workforce training and employee skill development.

  • Promote effective communication and collaboration across operational and technical teams.

  • Lead safety initiatives and reinforce practices designed to reduce workplace hazards, incidents, and operational risks.

  • Manage plant operating budgets and control variable operating costs.

  • Optimize labor, materials, equipment, and other resources to improve operational efficiency and profitability.

  • Use operational and financial data to reduce waste, control costs, and improve plant performance.

  • Support environmental compliance and applicable sustainability initiatives.

  • Drive continuous improvement efforts across production, quality, safety, reliability, and cost performance.

Job Requirements

  • 5-10 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.

  • Minimum of 5 years of plant leadership or management experience.

  • Demonstrated experience overseeing production, quality control, inventory management, and shipping operations.

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.

  • Experience developing, monitoring, and using KPIs to improve manufacturing and operational performance.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and implement process and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Strong technical knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes and the ability to troubleshoot complex operational challenges.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to manage operating costs, optimize resources, and make data-driven decisions that support profitability.

  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take ownership of operational results.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work regularly in manufacturing and production-floor environments.
