The Role

The Occasional Chef provides exceptional culinary experiences to our guests when our House Chef is unavailable. Working on an as-needed, on-call basis, the Occasional Chef executes the established Guesthouse culinary program, ensuring every guest receives the seamless, high-quality food and beverage service that defines the Guesthouse experience. The Occasional Chef will work in concert with the House Captain and House Chef to ensure that programming is executed flawlessly in accordance with existing standards and procedures.

What you will do:

Service: Executes inspiring, seasonal food to share with our guests. Uses the Guesthouse Program Guide to provide superlative internal and external service.

People: Embodies the Guesthouse approach to Premeditated Hospitality. Maintains a culture consistent with the Guesthouse mission, vision, and core values. Leads with empathy, kindness, and by example.

Operational: Follows established menus, recipes, and service standards. Adapts to guest needs and requests within the existing program.

Compliance: Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with all local and state laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operates, executes, and carries themselves to the highest standards, embodying the Guesthouse approach to hospitality.

  • Responsible for executing in-home food and beverage service according to established program guidelines.

  • Uses the Guesthouse Service Mission to guide interactions and deliver unparalleled service.

  • Works in partnership with the House Captain and House Chef to provide seamless service to our guests.

  • Follows recipes and menus as established by the House Chef and Culinary Director.

  • Maintains proper food handling, cleanliness, and sanitation standards.

  • Adheres to the Product Mission when working with ingredients and prepared components.

  • Ensures food is prepared and served according to specifications in quality, presentation, and timing.

  • Follows established opening and closing procedures for the kitchen.

  • Complies with the policies and practices of the Guesthouse employee handbook.

  • Maintains a safe work environment for our staff, preventing accidents and injuries, while ensuring compliance with all local and state laws.

What we need from you:

  • 3+ years of experience working as a Chef in high-end restaurants, luxury hotels, or private residences.

  • Strong knowledge of various cuisines, wine pairing, and current food trends.

  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Proficient in following recipes and maintaining quality standards.

  • Flexibility to work on-call, as needed, including non-traditional hours such as evenings, weekends, holidays, and events.

  • Serve Safe Certification to ensure adherence to food safety standards.

  • Culinary Expertise: Must possess a strong repertoire of cooking techniques and the ability to execute established menus with precision.

  • People Skills: Working seamlessly amongst guests and other staff members in all types of situations.

  • Facilities Management: Operate and maintain the home kitchen to the highest standards.

  • Adaptability: Able to step into the kitchen and deliver consistent, high-quality service with minimal orientation.

  • Computer Savvy: Enough computer knowledge and expertise to demonstrate proficiency.
