Job Description
Summary:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Technicians install, overhaul, dismantle, construct, inspect, replace, test and make mechanical and electrical repairs to buildings and mechanical equipment such as boilers, compressors, sprinklers, piping, plumbing, production and material handling equipment, line equipment and controls.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Troubleshoot using working knowledge of programmable controllers, electronics, circuit analysis, mechanics, hydraulics, and pneumatics
  • Performs plumbing and pipefitting duties as required on plant piping, such as steam, water, air, gas, and chemical lines
  • Operates and repairs electrically and mechanically, all boilers, compressors, sprinklers, cooling towers and pumps as needed
  • Read and interpret machine electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Reads and interprets blue prints and schematic diagrams
  • Installation, modification and fabrication of equipment and systems to meet production needs and schedules
  • Welds and fabricates as necessary for repair or projects
  • Maintains interior and exterior of buildings including windows, drain spouts, roofs, floors, ceiling, etc.
  • Inputs and retrieves information from the Maintenance Management/MVP System
  • Participate in continuous improvement in safety, quality and housekeeping.
  • Performs preventative maintenance as directed
  • Performs various inspections on safety equipment
  • Requisitions material, parts and tools
  • Communicates clearly from one shift to another and to the Production Foreman and Maintenance Manager
  • Coordinates the scheduling of repairs with department managers.
  • Maintains clean and organized work area according to 6S standards

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Actively participates in adhering to plant housekeeping requirements by picking up trash, sweeping work areas, and returning materials and equipment to their proper locations
  • Use computer to enter and retrieve information
  • Maintains regular and on time attendance
  • Adheres to all safety and work rules
  • Adheres to job specific SOPs
  • Assists and trains new employees
  • Reads and comprehends instructions regarding new equipment, equipment changes and/or procedural changes
  • Performs miscellaneous assignments as directed

Critical Demands:
  • Hand, eye and feet coordination to operate fork trucks
  • Hand and eye coordination to operate welding equipment, lathes, drills, saws and other equipment
  • Squat, kneel or stoop frequently to perform job duties
  • Reach or extend forward for long periods of time to perform job duties
  • Ability to read and comprehend written materials such as blue prints, SOPs, work rules, etc.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Walk or stand for extended periods of time
  • Stamina to work in extreme temperatures
  • Ascend and descend stairs to reach all areas of plant
  • Perform work from ladders or platforms at various heights
  • Dexterity to operate computers in order to enter or retrieve information
  • Communicate verbally or in writing with others
  • Unrestricted limitations on physical movement in order to safely operate complex, high speed equipment
  • Repetitive use of hands to press buttons and operate line controls
  • Occasional twisting of the neck and trunk
  • Experience and ability to make quick decisions when supervision is not readily available

Work Environment:
  • Periodic temperature extremes, including temperatures over 90 degrees
  • Some work areas located on 2nd or 3rd floor
  • Concrete or asphalt floors
  • Exposure to high levels of noise
  • Exposure to dust
  • Periodic exposure to fumes from paints and chemicals used in coating processes
  • Use of respirator required while performing some job functions

Job Requirements:
  • Four or more years of experience repairing and troubleshooting pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems, to include the following over-head cranes, forklifts, hoists, 3 phase motors, variable speed drives and controls, and heavy industrial wiring and/or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • Ability to read and comprehend work orders, equipment manuals, blue prints, and electrical schematics.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to read and write clearly, and communicate effectively with co-workers, vendors, and supervisors.
  • Understanding and demonstrated ability to apply troubleshooting techniques
  • Does require training checklist and demonstration of skills
  • Available to work up to 12 hours per day on rotating shifts, that could include weekends and holidays
  • 6 to 12 months previous experience on a coating line is preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None
