A campus security officer promotes and maintains safety at a college or university by supporting the efforts of campus and local police. Although not a sworn police officer, a campus security officer performs many of the public safety functions of law enforcement. Campus security officers promote lawful behavior and protect the welfare of students, faculty and staff as a uniformed presence on campus. A campus security officer performs foot and vehicle patrols of a college or university campus to monitor behavior, secure buildings and property, investigate disturbances, maintain order during events and enforce regulations. They monitor the physical safety of campus buildings by locking and unlocking doors, patrolling or monitoring using surveillance systems, and reporting suspicious behavior.
In emergency situations, campus security officers respond to the scene, provide first aid, and alert additional police or emergency personnel as appropriate. They maintain radio communication with other safety personnel and officers on campus, helping to coordinate emergency plans. They also write and submit incident reports to public safety supervisors or law enforcement agencies as appropriate.
This position may be located at any of our locations in Lee, Harnett or Chatham counties. Hours and schedule may vary.
Essential Duties
  • Ensures the safety of staff/faculty, students and visitors by monitoring vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the pods, main buildings and parking areas.
  • Monitors CCTV and alarms.
  • Conducts extensive and complete security tours of the campus facilities to assure safety and security of personnel and college property.
  • Reports all potential safety and security hazards to appropriate personnel.
  • Conducts outside roving walking patrols and riding patrols using security golf cart.
  • Completes incidents reports, reviews all incident reports and and other paperwork. Documents all incidents and emergencies.
  • Must be available to work second shift if necessary.
  • Will work with Site Directors on security issues as needed.
  • Properly responds to emergencies or unusual situations and directs security resources as needed.
  • Familiar with the CCCC Emergency Response and Active Shooter procedures and security policies.
  • Operates security radio system, dispatching assignments and calls to site security units.
  • Encourage and support College activities, policies, procedures, and philosophies.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Director of Campus Security.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, and
  • At least six months of security, law enforcement or military police experience
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Knowledge of NC Criminal Law
  • Knowledge of CCTV equipment and basic security equipment
  • Read and understand related policies and procedures
  • Work independently with little or no supervision
Required license or certificate:
  • Valid NC Driver's License
  • First Aid, CPR & AED

Preferred Requirements
  • Law Enforcement and/or 5 years security experience
