Job description

Medical Assistant / Medico-Legal Specialist: Roles and Responsibilities

This position is a key part of a team responsible for the overall management of Patients seen at Sanders
Clinic with legal representation. An effective member of this team will communicate well in English and Spanish, understand the policies
and regulations around the referral sources, be highly organized, and most importantly be transparent by documenting
each task thoroughly. This team member will be solely responsible for the organization of all information pertaining
to these patients; they will comply with an organizational protocol supported by each team member.

Clinical Duties:

  • Assist the Physician in caring for patients by following instructions
  • Communicate all clinical issues to the appropriate parties
  • Call and schedule patients
  • Check In, Room, and Check out Patients
  • Translate Physician instructions to Spanish speaking patients
  • Answer patient questions about follow-up process

Organizational Duties:

  • Ensure patient and work areas are kept clean and organized
  • Coordinate with referral sources to obtain the proper documentation to schedule patients
  • Refer patients to appropriate diagnostic centers
  • Coordinate with diagnostic centers to schedule patients and obtain reports
  • Communicate with referral sources about status of patients during treatment plan

Information Management Duties:

  • Generate physical chart
  • Electronically document patient encounter
  • File contents of chart appropriately
  • File all charts appropriately
  • Enter charges for patient encounter
  • Submit medical and billing records requests to legal representation and other valid requestors on time
  • Complete affidavits appropriately
  • Coordinate with team and legal representation offices regarding depositions
  • Complete request forms to manage all requests for information

Support Duties:

  • Answer phones and triage messages/requests
  • Translate/communicate for Spanish speaking patients
  • Other assignments as necessary
