This is a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in nonprofit marketing, event promotion, digital communications, and fundraising. The intern will work alongside seasoned fundraising professionals, contribute to chapter-wide initiatives, and build a portfolio of work in a collaborative environment.
You don't need to have done all of this before - we'll teach you. What we're looking for is someone eager to learn, communicate clearly, and make an impact.
What You'll Do
Your responsibilities will include a mix of creative, organizational, and communications work:
Content & Social Media
  • Draft and schedule social media posts promoting chapter events, workshops, and member news
  • Contribute to the monthly e-newsletter using Constant Contact
  • Help build and maintain an archive of chapter event photos and session highlights
  • Assist with writing press releases, member messaging, and event talking points

Event & Campaign Support
  • Support marketing and promotion for chapter events, including National Philanthropy Day
  • Assist the Communications Committee with the Be the Cause fundraising campaign - a chapter initiative engaging board members in giving
  • Help coordinate event logistics and communications in partnership with the Education Committee
  • Contribute to Eventbrite event listings and promotional outreach

Website & Contact Management
  • Help ensure the AFP NWI website is current and up to date
  • Assist with maintaining a contact list of nonprofit professionals in the region
  • Liaise with other committees to surface content and updates for the website

Planning & Strategy Support
  • Support the development of an annual marketing timeline and marketing plan for chapter events
  • Participate in committee meetings and contribute ideas for growing chapter engagement
  • Assist with sponsorship communications and benefit fulfillment for chapter sponsors

What You'll Learn
By the end of this internship, you will have gained experience and mentorship in:
  • Nonprofit marketing strategy and communications planning
  • Digital tools including Constant Contact, Eventbrite, and social media platforms
  • Fundraising campaign development and donor engagement techniques
  • Professional association operations and board governance
  • Event promotion and volunteer coordination
  • Building and managing professional relationships in the nonprofit sector

Education
  • PNW Work-Study Eligible Student

What We're Looking For
Required
  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program (any field - marketing, communications, nonprofit management, business, public affairs, and related majors are a great fit)
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Comfortable working independently and meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace
  • Willingness to attend some evening or weekend chapter events

Nice to Have (Not Required)
  • Experience with social media management, email platforms, or website editing
  • Interest in philanthropy, nonprofit work, or community engagement
  • Familiarity with Canva, Constant Contact, or Eventbrite
  • Previous internship, volunteer, or work experience in a nonprofit or professional association setting

Why Apply?
  • Mentorship from Certified Fund Raising Executives (CFREs) and experienced nonprofit professionals
  • Build a real portfolio of marketing and communications work
  • Network with fundraising professionals across Northwest Indiana
  • Meaningful, mission-driven work that supports the philanthropic community
  • Flexible scheduling designed to work around your academic calendar
