$25-$35/hour (all inclusive)
At VHS Hospice, we believe that spiritual care is an essential part of whole-person healing. Guided by our core values of Passion, Respect, and Excellence, the Chaplain provides compassionate spiritual support to patients, families, and staff during times of illness, transition, grief, and loss, honoring each individual's beliefs, values, and faith traditions.
Responsibilities for Chaplain:
  • Provide direct spiritual support, counseling, and comfort to patients and families in alignment with their personal beliefs, values, and cultural traditions.
  • Offer presence, active listening, and guidance to individuals and families navigating terminal illness, grief, and end-of-life experiences.
  • Collaborate with staff, community clergy, and community groups to promote sensitivity and awareness of spiritual needs in patient care.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary group (IDG) conferences by assessing, communicating, and supporting the spiritual needs of patients and families, and reporting on services as appropriate.
  • Provide bereavement follow-up services to support families through the grieving process with compassion and continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of spiritual care visits, interventions, and family interactions.
  • Contact clergy or appropriate spiritual representatives as requested or indicated by patients and families.
  • Assist with or lead occasional liturgical, memorial, or remembrance services in collaboration with staff and community partners.
  • Support funeral or memorial planning and services when appropriate, ensuring dignity, respect, and alignment with family wishes.

Qualifications for Chaplain:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Chaplain or Spiritual Counselor preferred.
  • Active patient care experience within the past three (3) years preferred.
  • Certification in Theology or a related field in the state of employment, along with completion of four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
  • Bachelor's degree in Religious Studies or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in Theology, Divinity, or Pastoral Studies required, including completion of approximately 72 semester hours and a program of study lasting about three years, which may include internship and/or Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
  • Valid Driver's License required.
