A Chaplain Residency is a structured, postgraduate training program for individuals pursuing professional chaplaincy. It typically lasts 12 months and includes supervised clinical pastoral education (CPE) in a healthcare, military, or institutional setting. Residents provide spiritual care to patients, families, and staff while deepening their skills in pastoral counseling, ethical reflection, and crisis intervention. Strong interpersonal skills, active listening, cultural humility, and emotional resilience are crucial soft skills for connecting with individuals from diverse backgrounds. These qualifications enable chaplain residents to offer compassionate spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff in challenging healthcare environments.
