What is a channel seed?

A Channel Seed job typically involves working with Channel Seeds, a brand under Bayer Crop Science, to support farmers in selecting and using high-quality seeds. Roles may include sales, agronomy, and customer support, helping growers maximize yield through tailored seed recommendations and field insights. Employees often work directly with farmers, dealers, and agronomic experts to provide guidance on seed traits, crop protection, and best planting practices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the channel seed position, and why are they important?

To excel as a Channel Seed Representative, you need a solid understanding of agronomy, seed genetics, and sales, generally supported by a background in agriculture or a related field. Experience with CRM software, agricultural data management tools, and certifications in crop science or seed advising are often valuable. Strong relationship-building, communication, and problem-solving skills set top performers apart in this role. These capabilities are critical for helping growers achieve success while expanding brand loyalty and sales in a highly competitive agricultural marketplace.

What does a channel seed do?

Channel Seed Representatives spend much of their week visiting local farms, consulting with growers to understand their unique needs, and providing customized seed recommendations. The role also involves field scouting, hosting product demonstrations, and conducting follow-up visits to monitor crop progress and satisfaction. Representatives frequently collaborate with agronomists, territory sales managers, and local retailers to stay current on product offerings and best practices. A mix of independent work and team meetings gives you autonomy while ensuring strong support and continual learning opportunities.
