Job description

Greenberg Fruit Company has been distributing fresh fruits and vegetables throughout Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa since 1936. Greenberg Fruit Company was the vision of Elmer Greenberg who started the business in a warehouse on the corner of 11th and Howard in Omaha’s historic Old Market. Elmer handed control of the business to his son Don in the 1950s. Greenberg Fruit was a fixture in the Old Market until moving to the current location of 9705 I Street in 1973. Although 9705 I Street was considered a West Omaha location in the early seventies, the business is now centrally located to conveniently serve all of Omaha and Lincoln and is within one mile of Interstate 80 providing easy access to all points East, West, North and South.

Essential Functions:

Company Objective Functions

  • Oversee company operations, project timelines, business developments, and employee productivity while building a highly inclusive culture to ensure team members thrive.
  • Refine and communicate company priorities and positioning to the employee base and marketplace.
  • Provide analysis of the organization’s operations, key metrics, and key decisions.
  • Collaborate with members of the leadership team to align cross-functional objectives and priorities with the overall goals of the organization.
  • Analyze sales history and gross profit trends that meet business needs and allows for reliable forecasting of future sales and company projections.
  • Work alongside the Regional President to set and drive the organizational vision and mission, corporate strategy, and hiring needs.
  • Develop actionable business strategies, objectives, and plans that ensure alignment with short and long-term objectives developed in tandem with the Regional President.
  • Implement financial procedures and organizational policies and programs to drive the company’s operating capabilities to surpass the industry average.
  • Assess and implement improved processes and new technologies and collaborate with management.
  • Ensure compliance with national and local business regulations and take appropriate action when necessary.

Team & Culture Development Functions

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with other professionals, customers, suppliers, business partners, and organizations in the industry.
  • Collaborate and excel in working with other functional areas to create efficient and effective processes for servicing customers.
  • Assist in assuring optimal performance and use of Produce Pro software.
  • Execute performance scorecards at the employee, account, department, and organizational level(s).
  • Foster a gross margin consciousness on the part of all functional areas.
  • Foster a culture of unprecedented customer service, proper cost to serve, and maximum profitability.
  • Coordinate, and cooperate with Human Resources and Workplace Safety with written employee training, performance improvement guidance, and discipline records.

Education & Experience:

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or a related field, or commensurate leadership experience in produce, food distribution, grocery, manufacturing, or supply chain operations.
  • Proficient PC skills in CRM and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems- Produce Pro, Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), and common E Mail systems.
  • Retail Grocery Channel – Specific, proven experience developing a portfolio of products for grocery retailers and developing a network to service the specialty independent grocery channel. Direct and recent experience selling produce products into these accounts. Ideally, the manager has top-to-top relationship management experience with senior management, merchandisers, and buyers. Track record of establishing and sustaining customer relationships at all key levels to achieve desired results.
  • Customer-Team Experience – History of working seamlessly with other functional counterparts on the overall go-to-market strategy, new product initiatives and customer specific plans. History of consistently using individual customer goals, strategies and capabilities to tailor programs that generate success for both company and customer.
  • Food Service - Extensive experience in food service, food distribution, grocery, hospitality, or a related industry, with a strong understanding of food safety, quality standards, inventory management, cost control, and leading teams in a fast-paced operational environment.
