Job description

TITLE:  JANITOR
DEFINITION:
A staff member responsible for cleaning and maintaining school facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:





  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one year experience as substitute with the Alamosa School District, or two years work experience in the janitorial field.
  • Knowledge of safe operations and maintenance for auto scrubbers, hot water extractors, vacuum cleaners, wet-dry vacuums, buffers, and other janitorial equipment.
  • Must be able to read material data sheets.
  • Knowledge of diluting and mixing products and application techniques.
  • Follow scrubbing and buffing frequencies, knowledge of stripping techniques, and how to safely use janitorial products.
  • Must be able to correctly follow instructions.
  • Must be able to respond to all requests in a timely and effective manner.

 
REPORTS TO:
Building Principal and Director of Maintenance as needed.
JOB GOALS:



  • To clean and maintain school facilities in a safe and timely way.
  • To maintain a professional relationship with students, staff, co-workers and the public.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Clean and maintain assigned work areas.
  • Clean and maintain tile and carpeted floors, walls including corners, ceilings, windows, and frames, light fixtures, furniture including black boards, desks, chairs and trash receptacles.  Trash to be removed from rooms and deposited in dumpsters.
  • Report any maintenance, safety or vandalism problems in writing, on a daily basis.
  • Report maintenance and safety needs in writing on a daily basis.
  • Communicate problems to the appropriate supervisor and discuss possible solutions.
  • Secure assigned areas nightly, during school functions and weekend duties.
  • Assist during building programs and activities with setting chairs, cleaning and stocking restrooms, cleaning spills, taking down chairs, and general clean-up.
  • Assist with revising assigned work schedules and hours as needed.
  • Be able to lift without any physical limitation, a maximum of 80 pounds adhering to the proper manner of lifting heavy objects.
  • Assist with summer cleaning and maintenance of schools.
  • Perform other duties and necessary.

 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Twelve month position.
  • Salary and benefits as per Board policy.

 
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy and procedures.
