This is a PRN position
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment and the care of patients appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform technical skills and procedures.
  • Promotes customer service initiative.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and policy regarding patient consents, diagnostic tests and patient data.
  • Completes work within acceptable time limits, utilizing best use of time during shift.
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Assist in preparing the operating room and performs assigned support duties during surgical procedures.
  • Assists team members in selecting and preparing routine supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Acts as key role in completion of team based communications and time out procedures
  • Assist the surgeon in the performance of any surgical procedure working under the surgeons direction.
  • Assists in returning of supplies, equipment and instrumentation to proper locations following departmental procedures.
  • Assist RN Circulator with positioning aids, other patient care items on preference card of per patient assessment.
  • Assists team with transportation, skin preparation to operative sites and other patient care needs.
  • Shares responsibility for patient safety at all times.
  • Maintains an environment that is free of obstacles and hazards that could result in injury to personnel or patient.
  • Maintains preference cards, updates to maintain accurate and current data, including, positioning, specific needs and medications.
  • Follows through with assignments and informs supervisor if unable to complete tasks.
  • Interacts and communicates with surgeons and team to promote team based behaviors.
  • Helps expedite turnovers to assist surgeon with his schedule and enhance patient care and safety.
  • Affords the surgeon the best possible exposure, retracts tissue and exposes area, clamps and ties to control hemostasis, maintains dry operative sites, identifies structures while maximizing exposure and retraction of sites.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills of suture and stapling devices and techniques relating to wound closure and assists in closure of incisions.
  • Perform proficiently tasks required of him/her by the surgeon pertaining to the particular surgical procedure once competency is completed.
  • Assists the scrub nurse to maintain an accurate account of sponges, sharps, and instruments according to departmental policies and procedures
  • Regularly assists in the orientation and training of other personnel.
  • Identifies and transports patients as needed and assists with shaving the operative site when indicated. Secures all necessary x-rays when appropriate.
  • Assists in cleaning rooms following procedures according to departmental policy.
  • All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current certification from Certified First Assistant Program
  • Current RN, LPN, or CST Certification preferred
  • Current BLS (or obtain prior to the completion of orientation)
  • Current ACLS amp; PALS certification (or obtain prior to the completion of orientation) required for RN/LPN licensures
  • 3 year experience preferred
