The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the executive leadership team of the YMCA of Florida's First Coast. In partnership with the CEO and Leadership Team, the CFO provides strategic financial leadership to advance the YMCA's mission, strengthen organizational sustainability, and ensure the effective stewardship of the Association's resources.
The CFO is responsible for the overall financial health and integrity of the Association, including financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, accounting, treasury, investments, risk management, internal controls, audit, and long-term financial planning. This leader translates financial information into meaningful insight that supports sound decision-making across a complex, multi-site organization.
The CFO builds strong partnerships with operational leaders, the Board of Directors, and external stakeholders while fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

The First Coast YMCA is one of the region's most respected and impactful nonprofit organizations, dedicated to strengthening the foundations of community across Northeast Florida. Serving more than 200,000 individuals and families each year, the First Coast YMCA operates more than a dozen membership facilities, a resident camp, a charter school, and an extensive network of youth development, wellness, and outreach programs. Essential Functions
Lead Financial Strategy and Organizational Sustainability
- Partner with the CEO, Leadership Team, and Board of Directors to develop and implement financial strategies that support the Association's mission, strategic priorities, and long-term sustainability.
- Provide financial insight and analysis to support strategic decision-making, organizational growth, capital investments, and new business opportunities.
- Lead long-range financial planning, forecasting, scenario planning, and resource allocation.
- Help organizational leaders understand financial performance and make informed decisions that balance mission impact, growth, and financial sustainability.
- Identify financial opportunities and risks and develop proactive strategies to address them.
Lead Financial Operations and Stewardship
- Provide executive oversight of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, cash management, investments, and other core financial functions.
- Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, management reports, and other information needed by the CEO, Leadership Team, and Board.
- Maintain strong internal controls and financial systems that promote accuracy, accountability, transparency, and appropriate stewardship of organizational resources.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and partner with operational leaders to establish realistic financial goals and performance expectations.
- Monitor financial performance and lead corrective action planning when necessary.
Strengthen Risk Management and Compliance
- Oversee financial risk management, internal controls, insurance, and other strategies designed to protect the Association's assets and resources.
- Ensure compliance with applicable financial, tax, regulatory, contractual, and reporting requirements.
- Lead the annual audit process and maintain productive relationships with external auditors, financial institutions, advisors, and other professional partners.
- Continuously evaluate policies, systems, and processes to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and strengthen financial operations.
Support Facilities, Capital, and Growth Initiatives
- Partner with the CEO, COO, and other leaders to evaluate capital investments, facility projects, real estate opportunities, and other strategic initiatives.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations related to new sites, expansions, renovations, partnerships, acquisitions, or other organizational opportunities.
- Support capital planning and financing strategies that align with the Association's long-term financial capacity and strategic priorities.
- Ensure major investments are evaluated through disciplined financial analysis, risk assessment, and long-term sustainability planning.
Build a Strong Finance Team and Organizational Financial Capacity
- Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing finance team through coaching, mentoring, professional development, and succession planning.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, service, and continuous improvement within the finance function.
- Partner with leaders across the Association to strengthen financial literacy and build shared ownership of financial performance.
- Establish clear goals, monitor results, and ensure the finance team delivers high-quality service and timely information to internal stakeholders.
Support Executive and Board Leadership
- Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team.
- Partner with the CEO in supporting the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, Audit Committee, Investment Committee, and other assigned committees.
- Present financial information in a clear, accessible, and meaningful manner to support effective governance and strategic decision-making.
- Build strong relationships with volunteer leaders and provide sound financial insight, recommendations, and guidance.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will bring a combination of strategic financial leadership, technical expertise, sound judgment, and a collaborative, mission-driven leadership style.
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is required.
- A CPA, nonprofit financial leadership experience, and familiarity with the YMCA movement are strongly preferred.
- A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience, including senior-level responsibility for accounting, financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and organizational financial strategy.
- Demonstrated success serving in a senior finance leadership role within a complex, multi-site organization with significant operating revenue, diverse revenue streams, and multiple stakeholders.
- Strong expertise in financial reporting, internal controls, cash and treasury management, budgeting, forecasting, long-range financial planning, and organizational financial analysis.
- Experience leading annual audits and building productive relationships with external auditors, financial institutions, advisors, and other professional partners.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial risk management, regulatory and tax compliance, insurance, and strategies to protect organizational assets.
- Experience supporting major capital investments, facility projects, financing strategies, real estate opportunities, and other significant long-term financial commitments.
- Proven ability to develop and lead high-performing finance teams while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
- Exceptional analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear recommendations for executive leaders, operational staff, and Board members.
- Experience supporting a Board of Directors and its committees, with the ability to provide clear financial insight that informs governance, strategy, and organizational decision-making.
