Job description

Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Description: The YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg is seeking a strategic, mission-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team. Reporting to the President & CEO, the CFO provides strategic financial leadership that supports the YMCA's mission while ensuring the association's long-term financial health, sustainability, and operational excellence. The CFO oversees all financial functions, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash management, investments, internal controls, audit, and tax compliance. Working closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and executive leadership team, the CFO develops financial strategies that strengthen organizational performance and support the YMCA's continued growth.
Responsibilities:
Leadership
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the President & CEO and Executive Leadership Team, providing financial analysis, forecasting, and recommendations to support organizational decision-making.
  • Develop and execute financial strategies that support the YMCA's Strategic Plan, long-term sustainability, capital initiatives, and growth opportunities.
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities and recommend solutions that improve organizational performance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Finance team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with executive and branch leaders to strengthen financial accountability, budgeting, and operational decision-making throughout the association.

Financial Management
  • Direct all accounting and financial operations in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Lead the annual operating and capital budget process, including forecasting, financial reporting, and performance monitoring.
  • Oversee financial statements, general ledger integrity, cash flow, investments, debt management, and internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.

Audit, Compliance & Governance
  • Lead the annual independent audit and oversee preparation of IRS Form 990 and all required regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Serve as the primary financial liaison to the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, auditors, banks, and other financial partners.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience, including at least 7 years leading finance and accounting teams.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit and fund accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, cash management, banking and treasury operations, internal controls, audit management, payroll, and tax compliance.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to present complex financial information to diverse audiences.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting software.
  • CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • Experience with a multi-site nonprofit organization, grant accounting, and multiple funding sources preferred.
  • Pass a 10-panel urinalysis drug screen
  • Clear a Level 2 background check*
