CFD Specialist Job Summary

The CFD Specialist performs advanced computational analysis to solve physics‑based problems related to indoor & outdoor airflow, thermal comfort, & contaminant dispersion. This role strengthens CM|MC’s analytical capabilities through modeling, research, & cross‑disciplinary collaboration. The CFD Specialist works independently while coordinating with mechanical, electrical, & project management teams to deliver high‑quality engineering solutions for mission‑critical environments.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Utilize CFD tools to analyze building airflow, thermal comfort, & contaminant dispersion.
  • Improve analytical workflows by developing best practices, automating processes, & streamlining modeling procedures.
  • Maintain current CFD research knowledge & emerging trends in building mechanical systems.
  • Document & present findings through technical reports, modeling summaries, & client facing presentations.
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines while independently managing analysis tasks & project deliverables.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, & Building Mechanical Systems
  • Ability to perform high‑quality work within deadlines
  • Strong analytical & problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work independently & collaboratively across engineering disciplines
  • Proficiency with technical documentation, modeling workflows, & presenting engineering findings
  • Extensive experience with Cadence, FloEFD, Tileflow and/or similar 3D CFD simulation software tools
  • Exceptional Microsoft Office skillset
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant CFD or building mechanical systems experience
  • Experience with CFD software such as FloEFD, Cadence, STAR ‑ CCM+, Fluent, FDS, OpenFOAM, or 6SigmaRoom
  • Familiarity with developing User Defined Functions (UDFs) for commercial CFD tools
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, planning, & time management skills
  • Strong drive for results & continuous improvement
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk & working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
