Description
The Designer plays a key role in developing furniture plans, specifications, and visual solutions that support functional, compliant, and inspiring work environments. This role collaborates closely with internal teams, A&D partners, and clients to translate program requirements and design intent into accurate drawings, specifications, and presentations. The Designer supports projects from programming through installation, producing layouts, renderings, bills of materials, and as-built documentation while ensuring all work complies with applicable fire, safety, electrical, and ADA requirements. Through strong coordination with internal teams, vendors, and trades, the Designer contributes to cohesive project execution and high-quality client outcomes.
Requirements
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Design Execution & Documentation
• Participate in projects from programming through installation with internal and external clients.
• Plan workspaces using AutoCAD, CET Designer, Spec, and other software as required.
• Produce renderings for workstation, office, and ancillary layouts using CET Designer.
• Specify systems and ancillary furniture and procure vendor quotes as needed.
• Develop accurate as-builts and bills of materials.
• Ensure all plans and specifications comply with local fire, safety, electrical, and ADA codes.
Project Collaboration & Coordination
• Communicate with design firms, general contractors, electricians, and other trades regarding furniture-related deliverables.
• Complete site verifications and field measurements when required.
• Participate in specification reviews and quality checks of design deliverables.
• Build and maintain productive working relationships with internal teams and project partners.
Client & Industry Engagement
• Support customer engagement through visual storytelling and clear design communication.
• Participate in RFP presentations, product specifications, and showroom tours.
• Attend vendor presentations, product training, and industry events as required.
• Develop and maintain professional relationships within the industry and with vendor partners.
Project & Financial Discipline
• Apply working knowledge of product discounting and margins.
• Create design budgets and track budget-to-actual.
• Track billable and non-billable time and submit weekly reports to leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or equivalent work experience (typically 5-7 years).
• Working knowledge of the design process from programming through installation.
• Minimum of three (3) years of furniture dealership experience preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience using AutoCAD and CET Designer preferred.
Skills & Competencies
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
• Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to client satisfaction.
• High level of empathy for client needs and design intent.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Zoom.
PHYSICAL & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
• Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed.
• Travel up to 5% to local KBM Hogue offices and client sites; occasional overnight travel may be required.
