A Certified Radiologic Technologist is a healthcare professional trained to perform diagnostic imaging examinations, such as X-rays, on patients. They operate specialized equipment to create images that help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. Certified Radiologic Technologists must complete an accredited educational program and obtain certification, typically by passing an exam from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). They work in hospitals, clinics, and medical offices, following strict safety protocols to protect patients from unnecessary radiation exposure.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a certified radiologic technologist in a hospital setting?

Certified Radiologic Technologists in hospitals are responsible for preparing and positioning patients for diagnostic imaging procedures, operating X-ray and other imaging equipment, and ensuring high-quality images are produced for accurate diagnosis. They also maintain patient records, follow strict safety protocols to protect patients from unnecessary radiation exposure, and often work closely with radiologists, nurses, and physicians to coordinate patient care. In addition, technologists may be required to assist during emergency situations or perform portable imaging at a patient’s bedside, making flexibility and adaptability important traits for success in this role.
