Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead delivery of complex projects in the nuclear power generation industry. This role is accountable for project success-including scope, safety, quality, financial performance, schedule, and client satisfaction-while also contributing to business development through a seller-doer model. The Senior Project Manager leads multi-disciplinary teams, manages nuclear quality and regulatory expectations, and partners with clients to identify and convert new work opportunities.
For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of nuclear power generation projects (e.g., plant modifications, life extension, uprates, new equipment integration, engineering studies, licensing support, outage support, and capital programs).
  • Establish delivery approach, governance, and execution plans, aligning scope, deliverables, milestones, and acceptance criteria with client expectations.
  • Direct multi-disciplinary teams (engineering, environmental, licensing, project controls, procurement support, construction/outage coordination as applicable) and manage subcontractors/vendors.
  • Drive strong interface management across plant stakeholders (operations, maintenance, engineering, licensing, supply chain, and site leadership).
  • Ensure effective closeout, lessons learned, and transition to operations where applicable.
  • Maintain a strong nuclear safety culture and ensure work is planned and executed with appropriate rigor, conservative decision-making, and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and quality requirements (e.g., client QA programs. ISO 9001, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA-1, configuration management, document control, records retention) as required by contract and project scope.
  • Oversee technical reviews and verification/validation activities; ensure deliverables are complete, traceable, and audit-ready.
  • Manage project risk, including nuclear safety, regulatory, schedule, and supply chain risks; implement mitigation plans and corrective actions as appropriate and relevant to AECOM's scope.
  • Own project financial performance: budgeting, forecasting, cost control, revenue recognition inputs, invoicing coordination, and margin outcomes.
  • Lead schedule development and performance management, including resource loading and critical path awareness; drive recovery plans when needed.
  • Control scope and change management: evaluate impacts, negotiate equitable adjustments, document approvals, and maintain contract compliance.
  • Provide clear internal and client reporting (KPIs, earned value/progress, risk register status, and executive summaries).
  • Serve as primary client interface and trusted advisor; maintain strong working relationships at multiple levels (PM, engineering managers, licensing, and site leadership).
  • Proactively manage expectations, communicate progress and risks, and resolve issues early to protect nuclear safety, delivery outcomes, and client confidence.
  • Facilitate decision-making through clear recommendations, option analysis, and documented action plans.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue follow-on work with existing nuclear clients and strategic accounts; support account planning and pipeline development.
  • Contribute to the US nuclear strategy development
  • Lead or support capture activities: client discovery, solution shaping, teaming, pricing strategy inputs, and risk/opportunity evaluation.
  • Contribute to proposals and interviews: scope definition, execution approach, staffing plans, schedule basis, and technical narrative development.
  • Maintain awareness of nuclear market trends (fleet life extension, digital modernization, reliability, carbon-free generation strategy, SMR/advanced reactor ecosystem where applicable) to support growth conversations.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • 8 years of experience delivering projects in the nuclear power generation industry (utility, OEM, EPC/AE, or nuclear consultancy).
  • Demonstrated success managing complex, high-stakes projects with accountability for scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Experience and understanding of nuclear industry expectations related to safety culture, QA, configuration management, and document rigor.
  • Proven client-facing leadership and experience supporting pursuits/proposals or expanding client scope.
  • Ability to meet site access requirements (background checks, fitness-for-duty, security badging) when required by the client as a condition of ongoing employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PMP (or equivalent) and/or advanced technical degree.
  • Familiarity with NQA-1 programs and/or regulated nuclear design environments; experience working under client 10 CFR 50 Appendix B programs (as applicable).
  • Experience leading multi-office teams and managing subcontractors/suppliers in a regulated environment.
  • Experience coordinating with field teams and supporting construction activities
