Certified Math & English Language Arts Teachers

The Job:
SmartStart Education seeks Certified Teachers to work with classes of elementary, middle, or high school students on various weekday schedules. Each class consists of students who have been identified as those who are struggling with fundamental Math and/or ELA skills. Students are from all grade levels, including K-12.

The teacher will work with each class several times throughout the week at an elementary, middle or high school in Prince George`s County, MD. Teachers should be flexible and comfortable with classroom settings. Each teacher will be given the responsibility of taking daily attendance and monitoring student progress using a personal device (mobile phone).
*Active Maryland Teaching Certificate REQUIRED*
Job Details:
The teaching position will begin late September/early October. The schedule will be 2-4 days a week during general school hours. Applicants are encouraged to schedule interviews as soon as possible to allow ample time to complete onboarding steps. Failure to do so may result in a position being unavailable.
Pay Range: $28.81 - $37.31

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field is mandatory. ***Please note that applications with anticipated graduation dates will not be considered.
  • *Active Maryland Teaching Certificate REQUIRED*
  • Demonstrated experience of at least one year in teaching, either within a school environment or another educational setting.
  • Mastery of elementary, middle, or high school math or english language arts concepts and skills, substantiating proficiency in the subject matter.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, encompassing racial disparity, socio-economic disparity, and cultural disparity.
  • Display of genuine passion and unwavering commitment towards fostering the success of students.
  • Exemplary punctuality, ensuring timely attendance and adherence to established schedules.
  • Proficiency in communication skills, enabling effective and articulate interaction with students, colleagues, and interested parties.
  • Ability to comfortably commute to the designated location.
  • Ability to comfortably navigate a school environment, including walking through hallways, classrooms, and stairways throughout the workday.
