Job Description Summary

As a Certified Medication Aide at ComfortCare Homes Inc., you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our residents. Whether you're helping a resident bake cookies, play trivia, fold laundry, sweep the patio, or rediscover their love of art you are connecting with each resident and creating moments of joy. With a patient ratio of approximately 1 : 8, you'll have the time for engagement and interaction with your Residents. At ComfortCare Homes our CareGivers have time for the thing they love most - making connections with their Residents! This position is essential to our mission of providing innovative dementia care that fosters meaningful relationships and promotes well-being.

The CareGiver is responsible for the direct personal care of Residents in the ComfortCare Homes®. They will ensure that all company policies and procedures, standards and Resident rights are observed during his/her assignment in the home. The CareGiver will follow the directives of the Home Supervisor, as established by the President of the company and her administrative team. These goals and objectives will promote the highest standards of quality while meeting all local, state, and federal regulations.

Experience

  • Must be an appropriately Certified Medication Aide or Certified Nurse Aide in the State of Kansas.
  • Preferred understanding of long-term care industry and specifically HomePlus regulations (not required)

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  1. Direct personal care of Residents including, but not limited to:
    1. Administer medications to Resident (if certified by the State as a CMA or equivalent) in accordance with State regulations and training standards.
      1. Dispense and chart all medication activities accurately and in a timely manner as assigned.
    2. Adhere to the Resident assessment and care plan for each of the Residents in the home.
    3. Provide skilled personal assistance with bathing, dressing, oral care, grooming and any other assistance needed to assure that all personal needs are met completely, and in a timely manner.
    4. Provide dignified assistance for incontinent Residents.
    5. Assist in the coordination and/or collaboration on supply inventories, ordering and organization. This includes Resident Care supplies, home supplies, nursing/medical supplies, house food and groceries, etc.
    6. Be knowledgeable at all times regarding Resident behavior problems; effect and effectiveness of medications; changes in behavior, appetite, and sleeping habits; doctor’s appointments; family outings, and other pertinent information.
    7. Provide excellent customer service and communication with family/primary decision makers of Residents, answering questions in a timely manner.
    8. Become familiar with the characteristics of dementia and effective coping techniques.
    9. Provide focused individual Resident interaction and activities in accordance with each Resident’s assessment and care plan, assuring appropriate movement, exercise, and mental stimulation.
  1. Direct care of the home, including but not limited to:
    1. Monitor overall condition of the property including yard upkeep, trash removal, snow removal, etc. and refer all home or yard maintenance problems to Home Supervisor, Director of Operations and Resident Care or office as appropriate.
    2. Keep the home clean, orderly, organized, and safe at all times.
    3. Follow the standards and process of completing Resident laundry.
    4. Prepare meals according to the menu plans (including any special dietary needs) and follow the daily agenda.
    5. Assist in the inventory, ordering and/or purchase of groceries for the use of preparing the menu in accordance with all company policies.
  2. Participate in regular meetings and in-services promoting company standards of care while increasing quality care outcomes for Resident care.
    1. Participate in all mandatory in-services to meet compliance and trainings.
    2. Personally maintain all appropriate requirements for certifications with the state as a certified medication aide
  3. Practice all standards in clinical documentation as defined by the company.
    1. Ensure documentation is complete, timely and consistent with care and reflects professional standards.
  4. Understand, honor and practice company policies and procedures.
    1. Present self in a clean and professional standard as outlined by company policies on dress code and conduct.
  5. Report incidents or concerns regarding Resident care to direct supervisor immediately.
    1. Report and update Home Supervisor of incidents that directly and indirectly affect the company.
  6. Assist Home Supervisor with completion of company expectations of annual surveys and other surveys by the state.
    1. Ensure correction and/or improvements of all deficiencies noted in a survey.
  7. Stay informed about changes in the field of nursing and/or medication aides to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
    1. Knowledgeable of KDHE and KDOA care regulations and compliance requirements
  8. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job, including but not limited to:
    1. Assisting in the safe transfer and physical care of Residents
    2. Lifting and management of supplies, groceries and other inventories that need to be collected, checked in, and stocked.
    3. Installation of necessary DME and other furnishings that are moved or installed for the care of Residents.
    4. Must be willing to learn, apply and model safe practices in the care of Residents to prevent accidents or injury of self and other Resident care staff.
    5. Must be able to safely lift, push, and pull at least 50 lbs.
    6. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
