Job Description Oteemo is seeking a Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer to lead the migration of an existing portfolio of applications into a containerized environment. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on Kubernetes orchestration, Helm chart development, and ensuring applications operate reliably on a RHEL 8 / Ceph-based private cloud platform. You will work at the intersection of application development and infrastructure, translating software running in Java and C++ into well-defined, production-ready containers. Core Responsibilities • Design, build, and maintain Kubernetes deployments and Helm charts for migrating existing applications into containerized workloads. • Collaborate with application developers to understand Java and C++ codebases and ensure containers accurately reflect runtime requirements. • Deploy and manage applications on a PAAS stack built on RHEL 8 and Ceph storage running on x86/64 hardware. • Apply OS and application hardening standards including STIG and NISPOM compliance as security requirements mature throughout the program. • Feed migration changes and deltas back into CI/CD pipelines built on GitLab and Jenkins as needed. • Leverage Ansible for infrastructure automation tasks to support deployment consistency. Qualifications Containerization - Primary Focus • Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes for workload orchestration (deployment, services, config maps, persistent volumes, RBAC). • Proficient with Helm for templating and managing Kubernetes application deployments. • Proven track record migrating legacy or monolithic applications into containerized architectures. Application Language Familiarity • Working knowledge of Java application structure, build systems (Maven/Gradle), and runtime behavior. • Familiarity with C++ application compilation, linking, and runtime dependencies as they relate to containerization. Note: Deep software development expertise is not required - understanding enough to diagnose container runtime issues and define correct images is the goal. Platform - PAAS / Infrastructure • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 administration and configuration. • Familiarity with Ceph distributed storage and its integration in private cloud environments. • Comfort working on x86/64 infrastructure in an on-premises or air-gapped environment. Security & Compliance • Understanding of STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) standards and their application to OS and container images. • Awareness of NISPOM requirements in a defense or government contracting context. • Experience with OS hardening, image hardening, and CIS benchmark application. Preferred Qualifications • GitLab CI/CD pipeline configuration and management. (Bonus - current team coverage exists) • Jenkins pipeline development and maintenance. (Bonus - current team coverage exists) • Ansible playbook authoring for infrastructure automation and configuration management.
