The purpose of the Sterile Processing Technician is to provide sterile surgical instrumentation to the Operating Room(s) as well as other areas of the hospital.

Primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient by adhering to standards, policies and procedures
  • Able to operate within budgetary specifications, including time management, productivity and accuracy of practice
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency
  • Must be able to operate all department equipment
  • Maintains proper documentation of all sterilization processes and biological monitoring activities.
  • Adheres to all infection control guidelines.
  • Accurately prepares, inspects, assembles, and sterilizes items according to their specific process guidelines.
  • Maintains inventory
  • Communicates with OR staff to ensure instruments needed are available and sterilized for all cases
  • Retrieves malfunctioning instruments and ensures repairs are completed.
  • Demonstrate excellent organization skills and an ability to identify process bottlenecks and drive improvements.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, required
  • 2 years' experience in a hospital setting or surgical center with sterilization responsibilities, required
  • Current certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
