What is a Center Township?

A Center Township is a type of local government subdivision found in some U.S. states, such as Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. It typically refers to a geographic area within a county that provides certain local services like maintenance of rural roads, fire protection, and sometimes zoning or community programs. The exact responsibilities of a Center Township can vary depending on the state and county. Townships usually have elected officials, such as a trustee or board, who oversee local governance. Residents within a Center Township may interact with township offices for services, permits, or assistance programs.

A Center Township Trustee is responsible for administering township assistance programs, managing township property and cemeteries, and providing fire protection and emergency services in the township. Trustees are also tasked with managing budgets, maintaining transparency, and ensuring all statutory duties are fulfilled in a timely manner. This position is central to supporting the welfare and quality of life for township residents.
