ABOUT THE ROLE
The Laboratory Supervisor's objective is to ensure that all products shipped are tested and meet the applicable standards, agency requirements, and plant quality targets. The position is responsible for the collection, interpretation and presentation of quality data for all materials. The position is also responsible for the scheduling, assigning, supervision and the development of the Quality Technicians. In addition, the position is responsible for all day-to-day laboratory operations and the coordination of those activities with the rest of the site.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
  • Ensure safe, reliable, and accurate analysis of all plant materials.
  • Lead laboratory safety initiatives and address hazards or unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment in accordance with safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain calibration records and support C114 certification requirements for XRF equipment and Quality Technicians.
  • Work closely with the Quality Manager to maintain the plant's API and ISO-based Quality Management System and support internal/external audits.
  • Supervise Quality Control and Physical Test Lab personnel, ensuring compliance with testing procedures and standards.
  • Coordinate training and development plans for Quality Technicians and maintain associated records.
  • Perform physical cement testing as needed to support laboratory coverage and operations.
  • Analyze laboratory data and communicate results and recommendations to operations and laboratory management.
  • Ensure all testing and reporting are completed in accordance with ASTM and/or API standards and entered accurately into LIMS.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, including chemicals, spare parts, equipment, and operating supplies, while supporting budget control efforts.
  • Maintain strong housekeeping standards and comply with all plant safety, environmental, and quality policies while supporting changing operational needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor's degree or 10 years of equivalent experience with HS diploma/
Additional Education Preferred: Master's degree
Field of Study Preferred: Chemistry or related field preferred
Required Work Experience: 3-5 years
Required Training/Certifications:
Required Technical Skills:
Travel Requirements: Less than 5%
Additional Requirements:
  • Strong working knowledge of spreadsheet functions, database usage strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of XRF and XRD preferred
  • Knowledge of cement manufacturing preferred
  • Knowledge of cement chemistry and clinker microscopy preferred
  • Knowledge of physical test procedures preferred
  • Ability to interpret and write technical reports
  • Experience in a laboratory or technical working environment preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with customers at all levels, both internal and external
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate a meeting and lead group discussions towards consensus
