Job Description:

Job Summary
The Cement Laboratory Technician conducts cement, water, and oilfield chemical tests in the organization's cement laboratory; prepares cement mixtures and chemical solutions following standard formulas or customer specifications; compiles and interprets data from tests, writes reports, and inputs data into databases; and maintains laboratory inventory.
Responsibilities

  • Conduct cement, water, and oilfield chemical tests in the organization's cement laboratory
  • Conduct experiments, tests, and analyses using laboratory methods(i.e., chromatography, spectroscopy, microscopy, and physical or chemical separation)
  • Operate standard oilfield lab equipment (i.e., cement consistometers, ovens, water baths, bench top rheometers (viscometers), water analysis kit, etc.)
  • Prepare cement mixtures and chemical solutions following standardized formulas or customer specifications
  • Maintain quality standards by sampling or analyzing raw materials, chemical intermediates, or products
  • Collaborate with Cement Engineers to develop customer specified cement mixes, assist with experimental design, develop new processes, develop new chemical engineering techniques, and provide technical support
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications and organizational standards by monitoring product quality
  • Compile and interpret data from test and analyses, write technical reports, and input data into proper databases
  • Maintain laboratory inventory and order replenishment supplies
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, perform housekeeping duties, and ensure instruments are properly sterilized prior to each new use
  • Maintain compliance with standard laboratory safety practices, chemical handling regulations, and assist in laboratory safety audits
  • Maintain compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies by attending all required HSE training sessions, safety meetings, and always utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Current, valid driver's license and a clean driving record preferred
  • Must be able to learn analytical and scientific software
  • Must be able to learn and follow safe laboratory and chemical handling procedures
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to effectively interact with customers and personnel at all levels of the organization
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, able to compile, interpret, and utilize relevant data to inform products and processes
  • Personable with good collaboration skills, able to effectively work with a team
  • Organized with good time management skills, able to prioritize workload
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Proficient working in Microsoft 365 applications, specifically Excel, and able to quickly learn other work related software
  • Must be physically able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and smell when necessary
  • Able to safely perform required duties during a 12+ hour work shift that will include days or nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be physically able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
