Job Description Position Overview

The Senior Electrical Compliance Engineer will lead certification strategy and electrical safety compliance for Sapphire’s turboexpander generator systems and associated power electronics. This role will work closely with engineering teams to ensure products meet North American and international regulatory requirements, including UL, CSA, and CE marking, and will coordinate certification activities with testing laboratories such as UL, TÜV, CSA, Intertek, etc. The ideal candidate shall have deep experience certifying industrial electrical equipment, power conversion systems, or distributed generation systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define certification strategies with timelines and milestones for new and existing products.
  • Identify applicable safety and regulatory standards early in the design process.
  • Develop certification plans, gap-analysis, schedules, traceability, and required testing programs and reports.
Regulator Compliance

Interpret and ensure compliance with relevant global standards including IEEE 1547 - IEEE standard for interconnection and interoperability of distributed energy resources and associated electrical power system interfaces.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 8+ years experience in regulatory compliance or product certification.Strong knowledge of UL, CSA, IEC, and EN electrical safety standards.
  • Experience certifying industrial electrical equipment or power electronics.
  • Experience working directly with UL, TÜV, CSA, Intertek, or NTRL.
  • Ability to review electrical designs for safety compliance.
Nice to Haves
  • Certification of grid-connected power systems.
  • Experience with inverters, generators, or power conversion equipment.
  • Experience with EMC testing and mitigation.
  • Familiarity with Machinery Directive compliance.
  • Experience with industrial rotating machinery or generators.
