Job description

A part-time position is available. Shifts are Mondays 10am-4pm, Tuesdays 10am-4:30pm, Wednesdays 10am-4pm, Thursdays 10am-4pm, and Saturdays 10am-4pm.

Purpose: Provide friendly, attentive, and prompt service for customers; cashier, stock, and receive groceries in an efficient and accurate manner.

Specific Responsibilities of Co-op Downtown (CDT) Cashier and Grocery Staff

Primary responsibilities will vary depending on shift, but will including the following: 

Customer Service

  • Maintain awareness of and acknowledge customers standing in line; call for back up as needed. 
  • Be familiar with Co-op policies and department products in order to better answer customer questions and complaints, referring unresolved questions or problems to a Lead or manager. 
  • Be informed about the benefits of membership and provide customers with membership materials as requested. 
  • Be familiar with Store Solutions in case of emergencies or specific problems related to the CDT.

Cashiering

  • Check out all purchases efficiently and accurately; ring prices and PLUs correctly and into the correct department. Fix any mistakes with the help of leads or managers. 
  • Provide information to the CDT Store Manager regarding price discrepancies. 
  • Comply with regulations regarding SNAP benefits/EBT cards, and alcohol sales. 

Cash Responsibilities (when in closing and opening shifts, as designated below)

Both opening and closing:

  • Ensure that the key to the count room and cash drawers is always secure and never shared.
  • Move excess change from the registers to the safe as needed, following protocols. 
  • Opening
    • Verify accuracy of cash box and all drawers. 
    • Install drawers in proper registers and ensure correct access and security, following procedures.
  • Closing
    • Secure the cash as registers are closed for the day.
    • At the end of the shift, count drawers, following procedures and protocols:
      • Report excess cash in safe.
      • Prepare drawers for morning cashiers.
      • Reconcile cash box.

Stocking, Receiving and Merchandising Responsibilities 

As directed, primary responsibilities may tend toward Cashiering duties: 

  • Ensure shelves/coolers are fully stocked and rotated to ensure freshness and turnover.
  • Rotate overstock into storage. Maintain approximate floor plan in storage area, using location signs as needed.
  • Provide feedback to CDT managers and CDT Purchaser regarding mispicks, out of date, damaged, and poor quality products. 
  • Ensure CDT Purchaser or a manager receives accurate, up-to-date price labeling requests for missing or damaged labels; check to ensure labels are present, up-to-date, and in good shape. 
  • Check deliveries to verify piece count, and check for obvious damage. Notify CDT Purchaser or a manager of discrepancies.
  • Receive and properly stock deliveries as directed (checking for quality and utilizing proper rotation protocol).
  • Expedite stocking of incoming out of stock items.
  • Review invoices for pricing and discount accuracy.
  • Ensure that all product is present when reviewing invoices as directed by CDT managers or CDT Purchaser.
  • Experience with customer service, retail sales or stocking desired, that demonstrates the ability or aptitude to successfully meet all expectations listed above. 
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. throughout shift, occasionally 50lbs. 
  • Ability to lift product overhead and/or to climb ladders with product. 
  • Ability to stand for long periods and to bend and twist repeatedly. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business; early mornings, daytime, evening, holidays, and weekend shifts may be required.
