Job description

Position Summary

The Fastly Content Delivery Network (CDN) Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and reliability of Content Delivery Network (CDN) services leveraging Fastly's edge platform. This includes VCL configuration, edge compute logic, caching strategy design, security controls, observability, and performance tuning to ensure high availability, low latency, and secure content delivery across digital properties. This Engineer maintains the Content Delivery Network (CDN) and collaborates with Dev and operational teams for change management and incident response. The Engineer excels when working on complex projects, is motivated to deliver results, maintains operational excellence, and exhibits the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion, and Fun.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Designed and maintained Fastly services, VCL configurations, edge dictionaries, and backend definitions.
  • Implemented scalable caching strategies aligned with application requirements.
  • Ensured optimal TTL, shielding, and origin failover configurations.
  • Analyzed cache hit ratios, origin performance, and request patterns.
  • Tuned edge logic to improve latency and reduce unnecessary origin fetches.
  • Partnered with application teams to refine cache-control headers and edge behavior.
  • Participated in on-call rotations for CDN-related incidents.
  • Conducted root cause analyses (RCAs) for production issues.
  • Implemented proactive monitoring and alerting enhancements.
  • Managed Fastly services via Terraform or API-driven automation.
  • Reduced manual configuration drift.
  • Contributed to CI/CD integration for CDN deployments.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related IT discipline; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience
  • Three (3) years of experience in a production operations environment
  • Three (3) years of experience in Content Delivery Network  (Fastly Preferred) Management
  • Three (3) years of experience coding and scripting in one of the following: Python, Bash, PowerShell
  • Excellent knowledge of Continuous Integration (CI)/Continuous Delivery (CD) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) automation tools
  • Demonstrates strong command of custom VCL logic, request/response handling, edge dictionaries.
  • Effectively analyzes metrics to optimize latency and hit ratio.
  • Strong use of logs, metrics, and dashboards for troubleshooting.
  • Deep understanding of caching, shielding, failover, origin health checks.
  • Available for overnight travel (up to 10%)
  • In possession of valid travel documentation with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
  • Able to work flexible hours and be available for emergency responses on short notice
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of experience working as a Content Delivery Network (CDN)Administrator
  • Four (4) years using a Automation Languages like Ansible, Terraform/ OpenTofu
  • Proficient in WAF rules, rate limiting, bot controls.
  • Experience with industry frameworks and methodologies: ITIL/Agile/Scrum/DevOps/SRE

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Fun and Passion
  • Promote JetBlue's #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue's Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy, and behavioral standards
  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents, or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue's confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))

Compensation:

  • The base pay range for this position is between $90,500.00 and $128,600.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue's total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
