Cdl Rigger information

What is a CDL rigger?

CDL Riggers are skilled professionals who operate heavy machinery and vehicles, such as cranes and trucks, to move, lift, and transport large or heavy loads. They hold a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and are trained in rigging techniques to ensure loads are secured and moved safely. Their work is essential in construction, manufacturing, and other industries that require the transportation of oversized or heavy equipment. CDL Riggers must follow strict safety protocols and often work as part of a team to coordinate complex lifting and transport operations.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a CDL rigger?

To thrive as a CDL Rigger, you need a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), knowledge of rigging techniques, and experience with heavy equipment operation and load securement. Familiarity with rigging hardware, load charts, and OSHA safety protocols, along with certifications like NCCCO or Rigging and Signalperson credentials, are typically required. Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills help ensure safe and efficient operations on job sites. These skills and qualifications are vital to prevent accidents, maintain compliance, and ensure successful completion of lifting and transport tasks.

What challenges do CDL riggers face when coordinating heavy equipment moves on job sites?

CDL Riggers often encounter challenges such as navigating tight spaces, ensuring proper load securement, and maintaining constant communication with other crew members to execute safe lifts and transports. The role requires a strong understanding of rigging techniques, safety protocols, and the ability to quickly adapt to changing site conditions. Effective collaboration with crane operators, site supervisors, and other trades is essential to ensure that all equipment moves are completed efficiently and without incident.

Job description

Class A CDL Heavy Haul Driver - Crane & Heavy Equipment
Austell, GA | Full-Time |
Build a Career in Specialized Heavy Haul
ALL Crane Rental of Georgia, part of the ALL Family of Companies, is looking for a Class A CDL driver to haul cranes, crane components, counterweights, boom sections, and heavy equipment throughout Georgia and the Southeast.
This isn't your typical trucking job.
Our drivers work with some of the largest cranes and lifting equipment in the industry and are an important part of the team that keeps major construction and infrastructure projects moving.
What We Offer
  • Competitive wage
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Paid Time Off and Holidays
  • Comprehensive Benefits Plans (Medical, Dental, Life and Disability Insurance)
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Sign-on bonus of $500 payable after 100 days of continuous, successful employment
  • Company-paid hotel and applicable travel benefits when working out of town
  • Modern, well-maintained tractors and specialized trailers
  • Year-round work with an established industry leader
  • Opportunity to develop specialized heavy-haul, crane and rigging experience
What You'll Do
You'll transport cranes, crane components, counterweights, lift equipment, and other specialized loads to jobsites throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest.
This is a hands-on heavy-haul position, not simply a driving job. Drivers may assist our crane crews with equipment loading, securement, crane assembly/disassembly, and rigging.
Typical responsibilities include:
  • Operate Class A tractors and specialized trailers
  • Transport cranes, counterweights, boom sections and heavy equipment
  • Properly chain and secure heavy equipment
  • Assist crane crews with assembly/disassembly when needed
  • Maintain DOT and ELD compliance
  • Perform pre-trip/post-trip inspections
  • Work safely around cranes and heavy equipment
What We're Looking For
Required:
  • Valid Class A CDL
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Current DOT Medical Card
  • Ability to safely perform physical work, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Dependable, safety-focused attitude
  • Willingness to travel throughout Georgia and the Southeast

Experience with heavy haul, multi-axle tractors, equipment hauling, rigging or crane operations is preferred - but we are willing to train the right Class A driver.
Not Coming From the Crane Industry?
That's OK.
If you're an experienced Class A driver with a strong safety record and want to move into specialized heavy haul, we want to talk to you.
Experience from equipment hauling, construction, lowboy, flatbed, ready-mix, towing/recovery, agriculture, LTL, or similar industries can translate well to this position.
More Than a Driving Job
The ALL Family of Companies is the largest privately owned crane rental and sales enterprise in North America. Since 1964, we've helped build roads, bridges, power plants, commercial buildings, industrial facilities and major infrastructure throughout the country.
If you're ready to get out of ordinary trucking and build a career in specialized crane and heavy-equipment transportation, we'd like to hear from you.
Apply today or contact us directly to learn more about the position.
The ALL Family of Companies and its affiliated branches are Equal Opportunity Employers and maintain a drug-free workplace.
