What is a CDC?

CDC jobs refer to employment opportunities at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a federal agency under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. These positions span a wide range of fields including public health, epidemiology, data analysis, laboratory science, policy, and administration. Working at the CDC involves helping to protect public health, conduct research, and respond to health emergencies in the United States and around the world. CDC employees play a critical role in disease prevention, health promotion, and preparedness for public health threats.

What collaborative opportunities are available for professionals working at the CDC?

At the CDC, professionals frequently collaborate with multidisciplinary teams that include epidemiologists, public health advisors, laboratory scientists, and policy experts. Cross-departmental projects are common, and staff often engage in interagency partnerships with local, state, and international public health organizations. These collaborations provide unique learning experiences, enhance problem-solving skills, and contribute to impactful public health outcomes. Additionally, opportunities for professional development and participation in high-profile research initiatives are regularly available.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CDC?

To thrive as a Communicable Disease Controller (CDC), you need a strong background in public health, epidemiology, and disease surveillance, often supported by a degree in public health or a related field. Familiarity with data analysis tools, case management systems, and relevant certifications such as Certified in Public Health (CPH) are commonly required. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for investigating disease outbreaks and coordinating with stakeholders. These skills are vital for quickly identifying, containing, and preventing the spread of communicable diseases to protect public health.

What is the difference between Cdc vs Epidemiologist?

AspectCdcEpidemiologist
CredentialsPublic health degree, CDC-specific trainingPublic health or related degree, often with epidemiology focus
Work EnvironmentGovernment agency, public health settingsResearch institutions, government, healthcare organizations
Industry UsagePublic health, disease control, health policyResearch, disease investigation, data analysis

While the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) is a federal agency focused on disease prevention and health promotion, an epidemiologist is a professional who studies disease patterns and causes. Many epidemiologists work within the CDC, but they also operate in various other settings. The CDC employs epidemiologists to implement public health initiatives, making the roles interconnected but distinct: CDC is an organization, whereas epidemiologist is a profession.

  • Job Type: Full-Time
  • Pay Rate: $18.50 per hour

Build Your Future in Pediatric Dentistry - 1 to 3 Years Dental Experience Required!
Are you an experienced Dental Assistant looking for a rewarding, high-energy clinical home? If you have 1 to 3 years of dental office experience and love working with kids, we want to hear from you! We provide an upbeat environment, top-tier clinical support, and ongoing training to help you elevate your career in pediatric dentistry.
Bilingual Preferred: Conversational or fluent English/Spanish bilingual skills are a huge asset!
Why Join My Kids Smile?
Are you looking for a career where you can make a real, positive impact every single day? At My Kids Smile, our dedicated dentists and caring team members have been spreading joy and healthy smiles in our community for years. We trade cold, intimidating dental visits for a fun, high-energy atmosphere where every child feels special and cared for.
When you join our Northwest Reno / Las Brisas clinical team, you'll work alongside exceptional, deeply compassionate pediatric leaders like Dr. Emily Vaccarezza:
  • Dr. Emily Vaccarezza (Board-Certified Pediatric Dentist): Raised in Valley Springs, CA, Dr. Vaccarezza earned her Biology degree with honors at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and completed her DDS at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. She then completed an intensive two-year pediatric residency through Lutheran Medical Center at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego. A Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Vaccarezza is passionate about building unique relationships with each family and bringing joy to the dental office (you might even hear her sing a line or two!). Outside the clinic, she loves cooking, kayaking, skiing, and cheering on the Giants!
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
  • Pediatric Chairside Assisting: Provide high-quality, efficient four-handed chairside assistance to our pediatric dentists during clinical and preventive procedures.
  • Elevate the Patient Experience: Greet children and parents with high energy, using kid-friendly techniques to ease anxieties, build confidence, and make visits fun.
  • Clinic Operations & Sterilization: Prepare, sterilize, and turn over treatment rooms seamlessly while adhering strictly to CDC, OSHA, and ADA infection control protocols.
  • Multisite Team Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with clinical and front office teams to ensure a smooth, cheerful daily patient flow while rotating between our local practice locations.
What We're Looking For (Qualifications)
  • Experience: 1 to 3 years of experience working in a dental office (pediatric experience is a plus, but general or specialty dental background is welcome!).
  • Language Skills: Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Communication: Fantastic communication skills with a warm, patient-focused attitude to easily connect with kids and their families.
  • Mindset: A thirst for knowledge, a love for teamwork in a collaborative environment, and a strong alignment with our mission, vision, and core values.
  • Safety & Compliance: This position is safety-sensitive; successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen is required.
Perks & Benefits That'll Make You Smile
  • Competitive Wage: $18.50 per hour base rate.
  • Time to Recharge: Accrued Paid Time Off (PTO) + 6 Paid Holidays each year.
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Medical Insurance (choose from 5 distinct plans), Dental, and Vision coverage.
  • Retirement Planning: 401(k) plan featuring a generous Company Match to help you save for the future.
  • Financial Peace of Mind: Practice-paid Life Insurance, Short-Term, and Long-Term Disability coverage.
  • Family Support: Access to our Team Member Assistance Program (EAP) for you and your household.
  • Exclusive Discounts: Dedicated Service & Achievement Recognition Programs, discounted team dental services, and corporate cell phone plan discounts.
  • Professional Growth: Endless opportunities for career advancement and professional development!
Ready to Advance Your Clinical Career?
If you're ready to make a real difference and brighten some smiles where joy meets dentistry, we want to meet you!
