Everforth ECS is seeking a Red Hat OpenShift Cloud Engineer to work hybrid/onsite position supporting the Fairfax, VA corporate office and/or Springfield, VA customer site.
The candidate must be able to support work within a SCIF and other Government locations as mission requirements dictate. Onsite support may be required up to 4 days per week, including additional support for critical deployments or operational issues.
Job Description:
Everforth ECS is seeking a Red Hat OpenShift Cloud Engineer to support the development, integration, operation, and sustainment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cloud solutions for a Department of Defense (DoD) customer.
The engineer will work as a part of an integrated cloud and infrastructure team supporting Red Hat OpenShift environments across AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, classified cloud, on-premises, and hybrid infrastructure. The role supports platform operations, application onboarding, security compliance, upgrades, troubleshooting, and sustainment across multiple environments and classification levels.
This is an execution focused engineering role for a candidate with practical OpenShift and Kubernetes experience who can independently execute established engineering and operational tasks while collaborating with senior engineers and OpenShift SMEs on complex architecture, migrations, and escalated technical issues.
Responsibilities include:
  • Deploy, configure, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Red Hat OpenShift environments under established architecture, engineering standards, and security requirements.
  • Support cluster administration including configuration, upgrades, patching, node management, networking, storage, security, monitoring, logging, back-up/recovery, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Support Kubernetes/OpenShift workload including projects/namespaces, pods, deployments, services, routes/ingress, ConfigMaps, persistent storage, resource limits, and role based access controls.
  • Support onboarding and migration of customer and vendor/partner applications into OpenShift environment in coordination with development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and platform teams.
  • Troubleshoot OpenShift, Kubernetes, container, Linux, networking, storage, and application platform issues; resolve issues within assigned responsibility and escalate complex platform or architectural issues to senior engineers/SMEs.
  • Support Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)0, and Red Hat CoreOS administration associated with OpenShift platform operations.
  • Support CI/CD, GitOps, and DevOps workflows using GitLab or comparable tooling to enable repeatable application and infrastructure deployments.
  • Develop and maintain automation and infrastructure as Code using Ansible, Terraform, Helm, scripting, GitOps workflows, or comparable tooling.
  • Support OpenShift operations across cloud, on-premises, hybrid, and classified environments, including AWS GovCloud and Azure Government.
  • Support security compliance including patching, vulnerability remediation, STIG implementation, configuration compliance, POA&M remediation, logging, access controls, and ATO sustainment.
  • Monitor platform health, capacity, availability, and performance and assist with proactive identification and resolution of operational issues.
  • Develop and maintain system configurations, SOPs, deployment procedures, troubleshooting guides, diagrams , and knowledge management/documentation.
  • Participate in change management, maintenance windows, incident response, release activities, and operational support.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, OpenShift SMEs, program and project management, cybersecurity, customers, Government representatives and vendor partner teams.
  • Provide technical input based on direct platform experience while escalating major architecture and design decisions to senior technical leadership.
  • Support knowledge sharing and cross training within the cloud and infrastructure engineering team.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field or equivalent directly relevant experience, subject to contractual labor category requirements.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with eligibility and willingness to obtain SCI access and a CI polygraph.
  • 3+ years of IT infrastructure, systems administration, DevOps, container platform, or cloud engineering experience.
  • At least 2 years of direct, hands on experience supporting Kubernetes and/or Red Hat OpenShift environments.
  • Experience administering Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes environments, including workload deployment, configuration, upgrades/patching, troubleshooting, networking, storage, security, and monitoring.
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes resources including pods, deployments, services, name spaces/projects, ConfigMaps, persistent volumes, ingress/routes, resource management, and RBAC.
  • Linux administration experience, preferably RHEL and/or Red Hat CoreOS.
  • Experience troubleshooting containerized workloads and platform issues across application, compute, networking, storage, and operating system layers.
  • Working knowledge of container images, registries, runtime fundamentals, and Docker/Podman or comparable tooling.
  • Experience with Git-based workflows and familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps concepts; GitLab experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of automation and IAC concepts using Ansible, Terraform, Helm, scripting, GitOps, or comparable tooling.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, load balancing, firewalls, security groups, certificates/TLS, and Kubernetes/OpenShift networking.
  • Understanding of least privilege, RBAC, encryption, vulnerability remediation, and logging/monitoring.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation, operating procedures, and troubleshooting documentation.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, customer service, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to independently execute assigned engineering and operational tasks while recognizing when complex issues require escalation.
  • Must meet applicable DoD cybersecurity workforce qualification requirements for the position (e.g., DoD 8570-01M certification: IAM Level 1 or better).
