Job description

Critical Care Technician

Job Summary: The Critical Care Technician under the direct supervision of a registered nurse participates in the delivery of patient care within the critical care environment. This position includes, but is not limited to following the essential functions. Essential functions include; functions within the established policies and procedures of the Nursing Department of Garfield Medical Center, responsibility for collaboration with the RN for efficient, cost effective use of time and equipment, provides care to designated patients and prioritizes based on patient's care requirements as delegated by the RN, and interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the Hospital.

Education, Experience, Training:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • One year experience in ED or Critical Care preferred.
  • EKG Certificate upon hire
Responsibilities

Assists patients to undress and change into patient gown. Make patient as comfortable as possible. Assists patients to the bathroom.

Obtains vital signs, weights on all pediatric patients, pulse oximetry and documents information on the patient record.

Places patient on cardiac monitor if necessary.

Places patient on non invasive blood pressure monitor if necessary.

Obtains medical record.

Notifies RN and / or Physician of patient's condition.

Assists RN with ambulance runs in placement of patients in appropriate bed.

Helps to update family on progress of patient i.e. delays. Arranges patient's family members to visit at appropriate times.

Performs CPR during codes.

Helps manage assaultive behavior patients and forensic patients.

Applies simple and complex dressings.

Performs EKG's, splinting and transports specimen to the Lab.

Assists RN in transportation of patients admitted to hospital.

Orders and stock special supplies as needed.

Follows EMTALA Regulations.

Assist with the training of new employees.

Ensures that all treatment rooms are stocked with supplies and ready for use.

Attends and maintains mandatory training in safe patient handling, trained in safe lifting techniques, includes but not limited to 1) Appropriate use of lifting devices and equipment, 2) Five areas of body exposure: vertical, lateral, bariatric repositioning and ambulation 3) Use of lifting devices to handle patients safely.

Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
