Job description

Position Summary

Whitaker Construction is seeking a motivated, safety-oriented Camera Truck Driver to join our Underground Utilities team. This position is responsible for safely operating a CCTV camera inspection truck to inspect sanitary sewer, storm drain, and other underground utility systems. The Camera Truck Driver collects and documents pipeline data, identifies defects, and works closely with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to support construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safely operate and transport a CCTV camera inspection truck to and from project sites.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Operate robotic CCTV inspection equipment to inspect sanitary sewer, storm drain, culverts, and underground utility pipelines.
  • Capture, record, and document pipeline conditions, defects, measurements, and observations using inspection software.
  • Prepare accurate inspection reports and maintain organized project documentation.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field crews to support project schedules and inspection needs.
  • Assist with locating underground utilities and verifying pipeline conditions prior to construction or rehabilitation.
  • Perform routine cleaning, calibration, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance on camera equipment and the inspection truck.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and ready for daily operations.
  • Follow all OSHA, DOT, company, and customer safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work vehicle.
  • Travel throughout Utah and surrounding states as required.
  • Work overtime and weekends as project demands require.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to safely operate trucks and equipment.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn CCTV inspection software.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.

Preferred

  • CDL or ability to obtain one.
  • Experience operating CCTV sewer inspection equipment.
  • Experience in underground utility construction, pipeline maintenance, or heavy civil construction.
  • Knowledge of PACP standards or willingness to obtain PACP certification.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience troubleshooting equipment.
  • Ability to read construction plans, utility maps, and project specifications.


Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Walk on uneven terrain and active construction sites.
  • Safely enter and exit vehicles and equipment multiple times per day.
  • Work extended hours, overtime, and weekends when necessary.


Work Environment

This position primarily works outdoors on active construction sites and roadways. Employees may be exposed to moving equipment, traffic, loud noise, dust, mud, extreme temperatures, and other environmental conditions common to heavy civil construction. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
